Kodi isn't the problem, the FireStick is. I use Kodi on a Shield TV Pro and Raspberry Pi with no issues.

Firesticks and cubes are ment to be replaced after so long. I hope you still not using the 1st Gen. Try deleting all apps you dont use then clean cache and reset device right after, if that don't work upgrade to a new stick they're only 20 bucks and they're easy to side load.

Add storage to the fire stick. They have options on Amazon to connect the fire stick to s external drive
