I hope they do well but is it normal to need over 2 million dollars cash to just open a grocery store?
I'm researching online and it looks like it typical costs people about 500K total to start a decent sized grocery. They're spending 475K just on the property alone, a space that still requires 700k in renovation .

Any business owners in here care to explain?

If the business plan was sound, do you not think they could’ve found private investors... They’re raising money just to buy a building, not maintain operations.... whose gonna foot the bill for the operating costs, and why is their earnest money less than 2 percent of the retail price.... they’re asking the general public to virtually buy them commercial property free and clear when they have very little skin in the game

Even with a sound business plan it is hard to find a private investor, private investors like to see you already off the ground profitable but need that financial backing for growth

So we’re going to use emotional catharsis to secure public funds to buy “us” a property valued at half a mil.... but not be sure if we can deliver our promise to the general public because we’re not sure where the needed funds, business resources/connections will come from....

FYI, they could’ve rented a smaller spot and started a black grocery store for a fraction of the cost... see it all the time with and Mexicans..... Africans/South Asians have a few grocery stores throughout Birmingham that serve their community, but they are renting the spaces because it makes more economical sense... this does not.... hence why they couldn’t find a private investor to begin with, or get a business loan from a black bank in Atlanta of all places
