Is that how you felt when you married your wife; did you foresee ever divorcing her for being unsupportive?

I didn’t cry but I don’t begrudge any black man for doing so.

The reason why many black men weep during periods of happiness is because oftentimes, it took damn near insurmountable odds for us to even MAKE IT to that point. We don’t know WHAT this man has had to deal with in his life. Struggle, adversity, trauma, to make it to the point where he can stand in front of a beautiful black woman and call her his own. So many little bullshyt micro aggressions that black men deal with on the DAILY and show no emotion having to deal with it. Maybe he’s really thinking about how peaceful life will be with a woman who can bare children he won’t have to fight the courts to see and be with, because they’ll be legitimized and under HIS roof. Maybe he’s thinking about breaking a generational curse through choosing matrimony over yet another “baby mama/daddy” situation. Maybe he’s thinking about how it feels to find the love of his life. It could be all of that or a million other things. The POINT is that its a moment of overwhelming joy for a black man and in that forum it should be allowed.

We’ve got a lot of rules, some fair, some not so fair, that govern the emotions of black men. I personally feel a man’s own wedding should be one of the occasions where we let those lax a little bit.
