The only problem I have with this record is there’s no variety. The pace, sound, vibe is the same on every song.
That's why I said I think Spitta carries this record. Out of all Al's produced collab albums in the past few years, I think this one is the least dynamic and least varied in terms of sounds and styles delivered on the record. And again, that's cool. The production allows Spitta to shine, which is ultimately what the best producers do. But I'm definitely a little disappointed at how similar a lot of this record sounds. Especially coming off the heels of stff like Bo Jackson and Super Tecmo, which in some ways sounded like he was using showcasing lots of different pieces of his portfolio.

BTW whoever said I was happy to give critiques to Hit-Boy but not Madlib or Alchemist...they probably aren't reading it, but this is your post right here.

With all this Covert Coup talk in here I hope y’all ready to finally call it a classic album now:stopitslime:

10 year anniversary was last year and a lot of y’all didn’t even celebrate it:stopitslime:
:wow:

CC might be my vinyl purchase that I'd have the hardest time parting with. It's in my top 3 favorite releases of the 2010's. I have so many great life memories to that album, and it changed my entire perspective on hip-hop too. It got me out of only listening to either goon music or blue collar rap. Spitta really changed my perception on what made a good emcee and opened my ears up to a new style of rapping. And Alchemist's production got me out of the only enjoying either 'tunnel banger' street joints or soul sample beats. It got me interested in hazier and more psychedelic trippy production. Finally, it also exposed me to a lot of dope European and Asian music by way of the samples that were used on there.

Edit: Also CC is a trip because there's very little info out there on how it was made.

Thats what I’m saying breh you was there…and I know you’re one of the few who loves Covert Coup just as much as I do…them prog rock samples Al was using he must’ve had them tucked in a secret briefcase or something:russ:

But being an Alc Stan like you I will admit I did not know what to except with that album, Spitta and Alc had never worked together prior to that so it was a blending of different yet similar styles and they knocked it out the park…but back then people were downplaying it saying it wasn’t a “real album” just because they dropped it on DatPiff:mjlol:

I feel this album is just as amazing as CC was when I first heard it, even after hearing all of the snippets I’m still amazed at what they gave us. I understand that them comparing this to CC would take shine away from this album but I don’t get into what artist say anymore I’m just focused on the music

Plus I have been waiting 9 years for Alchemist to use that Kool & The Gang beat as an actual song and he finally answered my prayers:blessed:

And that's why I hate Spitta changed the album title at the 11th hour and said this was a direct sequel to Covert Coup.

Add to your list Success is my Cologne. BBS. Smoke Break. Blood Sweat Gears. Ventilation. All bangers. Covert Coup was a hard album. Gritty psychedelic space rock shyt. The only not "banger" on CC is Life Instructions.

Albert Einstein is probably the closest Alc has come since then to trying to nail that sound again. And some joints on the last 3 Boldy albums he did.

I don't understand any of the comparisons of this album sonically to Covert Coup. If people want to say they like it as much, or more, or less, whatever. Cool. But this album very obviously doesn't sound like Covert Coup at all.

So far off 1st listen this is more in vein with Carrollton Heist. It has that vibe to it. I feel that Covert Coup was a moment there is no duplicating that. It came out of left and hit and was special.

Getting out of work at 6. Gonna go home, change clothes twist a raw cone and then promptly hop in the whip and listen to this while riding up the coast.

Fire ass shrimp plate from the local Mexican spot on deck :wow::blessed:
