Same thing I was thinking....that pass was too high:heh:
He had to throw it high, LB was in the line of sight. It was a good throw that the QB put his WR in position where only he could make the catch. Others wouldn't have thrown it because he doesnt look open off the snap.

So we hired Jonah Hill from Moneyball to run our team? :lupe:

I guess the leap from baseball to football won't matter?

A Buckeye State Of Mind
They already said they are hiring the coach first.

Which leads me to believe they are looking for a really young GM because his organizational power is really limited based on the current hierarchy.
The front office is essentially set already.

I agree on Hue or the Patriots DC

shyt coming into place REAL QUICK

Goff with Hue and the geeks upstairs... I like I like
I think Hue would be a pretty good hire. Im just worried about the power struggle down the line. It would be ok at first but Im skeptical about down the line:patrice: Im willing to give it a shot cause we have nothing to lose:manny:

I never liked Jared Goff....I'll put that out there before I continue.

1st, he's lanky. He needs to put on some strength in order to play against the Ravens, Steelers, and Bengals defense on a weekly basis with no running game to speak of.

2nd, he plays in the Air Raid offense (which is the WORST version of the spread offense I would want my future QB running, because any average QB can put up numbers in that offense. Notable Browns QBs Tim Couch & Johnny Manziel both ran this same exact systeme in college to tons of pretty stats as well:mjpls:).....in the Pac 12 at that, a conference known for being one of the weakest major conferences when it comes to defense.

3rd, and instead of explaining it myself, I'll let the article that was posted above speak for me:

As much as Goff impresses fans, he has areas to improve as well. The same can be said for every quarterback. But Goff’s areas to improve may turn off potential suitors just like the 31 teams that passed on Teddy Bridgewater in 2014.

Goff’s frame is slight, and although he survived the Pac-12, he needs to add more bulk before playing in the NFL. Ideally, he would have the opportunity to sit and mature during his first year. While Rodgers had the benefit of sitting three years, his body changed from the time he entered as a 22-year old rookie until he was named the starter as a 25-year old.

Adding weight will not only help the odds of Goff staying healthy, but it will also his arm to fill out. He has a solid arm, but when he is out of rhythm, he can lack velocity on his throws. A stronger upper body and core can certainly help this.

As far as traits go, Goff is a gunslinger at times. Like Jay Cutler at Vanderbilt, Goff didn’t have much help around him on the Cal roster sans a couple of players. He sometimes pressed too much with this in mind and tried to carry the team. That’s not a good thing, and he forced some bad interceptions against Utah, USC and Oregon, specifically.

Goff recovered from the Utah and Oregon games with a tremendous six-game stretch to finish his Cal career. Teams want some sort of risk-taking from the quarterback, especially the willingness to test tight windows and allow playmakers to be do their thing at the catch point. But there’s a very fine line between what great quarterbacks do, and what bad quarterbacks consistently do.

Goff’s five-interception game vs. Utah was eye-opening, but only two of the interceptions were directly his fault. Three others came from either drops or tipped passes. Still, whether he can excel when the speed and size of defenders increases is a question.

He’ll see more responsibility in terms of huddling, assigning protection duties, calling audibles and working under center a little more often. Those are normal transitions for most of the quarterbacks that have entered the NFL in the last five years. We cannot assume that Goff will fall into even a great situation where patience will be afforded to him while he learns and adjusts to a different, possibly more difficult, playbook.

Transitioning from the Bear Raid offense will bring some challenges, but a good offensive coordinator will bring some of those concepts to the playbook. We know that Goff excels on downfield throws, so working in a vertical offense can limit immediate transition issues.

So he was known for pressing and trying to do too much, because he didn't have a ton of help around him at Cal.....and then putting him on the Browns in the NFL is a concern for me:patrice:

Now, I DO agree that the Browns should take the chance on Goff, being that they have no future QB on the team (Money Manziel is gone, we all know that:manny:), but Im not sold on him at all as being a franchise QB right now, and still the Browns have no choice but to pick him imo.

I think we understand that he won't set the world on fire right away. We have weapons coming back like Josh Gordon and Gary Barnidge. We can draft a Michael Thomas or other big receiver for an extra offensive weapon.

I do not think Joe Thomas will leave, but Alex Mack will. This slides Cam Erving to center, which is the position we drafted him to play (idk how this will work out he could still suck). Joe Bitonio will be back from injury, so our OLine should be okay.

I think Goff should be smart enough to learn what offense we play (Josh McCown staying on board will also be a huge help in this regard). He is a film junkie (the complete opposite of Manziel) and he has the technique and intelligence to succeed at this level.

I hope they have a plan for O-line. Mack, Thomas and Schwartz could all bounce.

Finally got time for my Jared Goff scouting report:

Let's start this off right now...

I'm seeing A LOT of young Peyton Manning on tape. From his drop, to his choppy/sliding foot set up and release, Goff physically and technically resembles Manning when he came out of Tennessee.

What also impresses me about Goff is how he seems to have a 5 second gameplan on every snap. He wastes little energy on anything other than taking the snap, scanning and delivering. He's almost robotic how he efficiently duplicates throws time to time. That takes great discipline and shows he's willing to take what the defense gives him. If you protect him, more than likely he will make a throw that will result in a completion. Browns haven't had that since Tim Couch.

Speaking of Couch, despite what I just said above, I wasn't the biggest Couch fan because I felt he didn't push the ball enough down field. With Goff you wont have to worry about this. He has Rodgers-like accuracy on his bread and butter throw 15-25 yards down the field which is, IMO, the defining mark of a great QB. Can you consistently drive the seams over Cover 2 zones and such?

Couch couldn't, Goff can.

I mean, drafting this guy is complete no-brainer even if it means moving up a spot to get him.

He's better than Mariota.

He's better than Lynch.

He's a quarterback machine who appears to fight for every yard he can get no matter the score. I watched a game last year against USC and Trojans came out firing and had Cal down like 25 going into halftime. Goff came out gunning and battled to the last second on the clock in a close loss. Browns haven't had that since Hoyer. No matter the score the game isn't over.

I think Goff has a pro ready skillset. He reads coverage. Can manipulate the pocket. Keeps his eyes down field. Quick release. Good arm strength. And he has good size.

Conversely, the guy seemingly played shotgun 100% of the time in college tho. I don't think that will be a long term issue but I'm willing to sit him for a season till he can assimilate 5 and 7 step drops into his repertoire.

I hope he does succeed. I don't like him right now, but once he puts Cleveland on his chest, I will accept him like I did Manziel:ehh:

Thomas can't do shyt. He's still under contract.

He's in his emotions right now I'm sure they could talk him off a cliff and at worst he's worth a first round pick.

I'm not underestimating the power of the sulk when it comes to Thomas, we've been blowing shyt up since he was drafted and Jimmy said we're rebuilding again. Even if they get that 1st we still don't know if the new number crunchers can draft.

So now Goff is the must have QB? Because a couple months ago you told us all that Connor Cook was the best QB and the 1st pick in the draft and gave another one your scouting reports telling us how great he was.

And not one team in the NFL would take Goff over Mariota, sorry

To clarify a little bit the Browns won't have a General Manager but a "talent advisor".

That person is responsible for scouting and finding talent, finding free agents, hiring scouts, building draft boards, etc.

Sashi has the final say on the 53 man roster.

So basically, the Browns are gonna be using a fantasy football geek, who's a baseball guy at heart, to build their roster?:lupe:

Oh well, all anyone can do is sit back and pray it works:yeshrug:

Nah.

It's broken down into 3 segments....Coaching, Buisness/Development, and Talent/Scouting.

Sashi Brown + Unhired Talent Advisor + Scouting/Talent department build the roster.

DePodesta is responsible for the team's player-development, sports-science, high-performance, and analytics departments.

Head Coach reports to ownership. He runs the coaching staff and obviously the team.

Alex Scheiner is responsible the business side of things.
