I have to say, this would be a very interesting turn of events. If the Republicans start actively positioning themselves as nativist worker's party to the Democrats' neoliberal globalist party, we could be in for an interesting next few cycles. The Republicans would have to tone down the dogwhistle racism, but if the economy collapses in the next few years (which is becoming increasingly likely), then there will be a market for that Republican shift. On the other hand, Republicans could embrace the tech revolution and posit themselves as the pro-growth party. Silicon Valley would replace the Religious Right as the dominant interest group in the coalition. Either way, the Democrats have put their lot in with the burgeoning Hispanic population. But both AAs and Hispanics are disproportionately at risk from neoliberal policies, so once the older generations die off, we might see a radical realignment. The younger generation of AAs and Hispanics might be disillusioned with the Democratic Party, who will be complacent and bloated from the electoral dominance in the wake of the Republican collapse.
