Pessimism aside, Riley may be able to get both Waiters and JJ for $10 mil each. These guys keep saying how much they love it here, so that takes away a lot of negotiation power. The question is who are you getting in FA with the top guys likely to stay with their teams?

Someone started some myth that it would take up all our cap space to bring them back. Get Bosh salary off the books we could re-sign both and add another player in Free Agency. Then we have our pick and essentially another lotto pick with Winslow coming back for his true sophomore season

He's gotta pull off a trade of some kind I guess. I mean he managed to get Alonzo and Tim and Shaq all that way :manny:

“Justise coming off the summer he had. If he were able to play a full season, the wrist injury coming out of preseason, would have had a major impact on this team. He had a terrific summer. Everyone you talk to coming out of Orlando, they were two of the top players coming out of the Summer League. They followed up an impressive rookie year with a great summer league.”

• But can Winslow be a three and D player? “Yes and he can create that game. People get caught up so much in the wrong narrative. We are not trying to develop Justise Winslow to become Chris Mullin. One thing he can do is impact defensively and take away threes.

“He can generate threes offensively because he puts a lot of pressure in the paint, off the dribble. I don’t want the focus on how many threes he makes. He will make enough. It will be about getting into world class shape. It will be my job to put him in spots to [succeed]. If he hadn’t had the wrist injury, he would have been an efficient offensive player.

“He will find a way to help your team.His weaknesses, whatever the perceived ones are, will not be our focus this summer. It will be his strengths and getting him to upper echolon strength will be the priority. Justise brings a tremendous amont of versatility of toughness, of winning plays, he fills in a lot of those intangible gaps.”

I wouldn't pay too much attention to this. We're just a few weeks away from the reports of "Charlotte wants Justise Winslow attached for Heat to move up"

Remember how the coli swore the T-Wolves was gonna tear it up this year? Them fools picking top 10 for the 6th time in the last 8 years. Quick someone tell me how many playoff series they have won during that time with all those assets :mjlol:

:mjgrin::mjgrin::mjgrin:

In 2007, after losing their franchise player Kevin Garnet to the Celtics, the Timberwolves spent the season tanking, going 22-60.

With the 3rd pick in the 2008 draft, the Timberwolves selected O.J. Mayo. :mjgrin::mjgrin::mjgrin:
In hindsight, they made the right decision because a few moments later, they traded away O.J. Mayo for a man named Kevin Wesley Love who was selected 5th by the Memphis Grizzlies.

But like most crappy organizations that subscribe to tanking do, they had no idea how to win and thought that they could just lean on their one franchise player to carry the team and just have it work. If they have a poor record, they'll be in good position to take another franchise player they thought
:ehh:

So the season records over the next few years ended up looking like:

  • 2008: 24-58
  • 2009: 15-67
  • 2010: 17-65
  • 2011: 26-40
  • 2012: 31-51
  • 2013: 40-42
  • 2014: 16-66
  • 2015: 29-53
  • 2016: 31-51
:scust::scust::scust:

They failed to even reach treadmill status since 2008, but managed to reach elliptical status.

So they blamed and continue to blame coach after coach for their lack of success. In fact, the last time they reached treadmill status was Dwyane Wade's rookie year. 03-04
:sas2:

Since that time span, the Miami Heat has won 3 championships doing it their way - by stealing players from tanking and dysfunctional franchises :mjgrin:.

Which franchise philosophy would you choose to go with?

Think Johnson would be willing to go for a 10-12 million. Maybe Waiters will go for a 13-15 million.

I think a decent pickup in FA, if we can't get a Hayward or Blake, would be Patrick Patterson. :yeshrug:

He's been shooting 3s over 36% for the past 4 years, he's only 27, and he's a decent rebounder especially when compared to Luke Babbit. He's an unrestricted FA too.

As a backup PF for JJ, he might not be a bad option and I think he could be snatched for a decent deal. He can also make it easier for us to draft a PF project to work on like Giles or Swanigan.

The question is who are you getting with $10-20 million? :mjgrin:
These days established role players are getting $15+ million, and the last thing this team needs is another role player. :mjgrin:
