the story isn't true but a lot of the things IN the book and movie are (places, dates, paintings, theories etc). it's mostly based off a book called Holy Blood Holy Grail which is where they get the whole idea of Jesus being married and the whole merovingian bloodline, Jesus' "family" bloodline coming down through the ages and the Holy Grail actually being Mary Magdeline's womb and all that.
