Bro his security killed the guy. I don't know how many Charlotteans are on here but everybody in the city know he didn't kill the guy. It's the perception everywhere outside Charlotte that he killed him. The image of him being a shooter was already coordinated before that incident, but the "realness" of that incident boosted his profile nationally. It "fits" what they were already saying about him...
The word out on dude is that he ain't some chump, but he don't have the reputation that his image portends. People in that lifestyle in Charlotte know that there's nikkas well known for knocking shyt off. His name is not mentioned in those circles because he not one of them. Alota people didn't know where he was from for the longest. He from Charlotte, but he not from any area that breeds the type shyt he talking bout...
DaBaby is an older Tay-K. He from the burbs and ran around with guns, the word is he sold some trees, and "maybe" he hit somebody out in the suburbs before. He do got some solid cosigns, far as some people around him known for drama, so its credible that he not a sucker or a pushover. Nobody in Charlotte thinks he this gangsta ass nikka though, just a funny nikka who can really rap. People in the field in Charlotte know the nikkas really with the shyts...
He definitely in actor mode in the recent Vlad interviews, like just relax, bruh. Nobody think you sweet...
As far as him being signed, he been buzzing for a minute so I wouldn't be surprised if he was already signed and they waited until now to leak it...

So what happened then?
DaBaby got a (minor) record. He has a pending case in Raleigh from just last year for unlawfully possessing a stolen hammer, and he got other light charges on his record. The way this works, even if he killed somebody in self defense, he would still wear a charge for possession. That's how it works in North Carolina fa sho...
But he had a security guard with him when he went out with his baby moms...
Anyway, I believe dude has potential through the roof. You can tell by his videos that he got acting potential, he can rap, dude chose to wear the diaper when half his team was against it, so he has a sense for marketing. He hella creative, and there's some smart muhfukkas handling his career. If he play this right and avoid the stupid shyt (like catching random gun charges, and going to Walmart if you got beef with somebody, his name and potential too big for these things)...if he play this right, and I think he will, dude is gonna make a lot more money in the years to come...
I don't dig the "I'm a killer" act, but he and the people with him know the business better than me and they know what sells. They on a positive track and that shyt is good for Charlotte!

This interview is closer to DaBaby's actual personality. Really relatable guy, humorous. If pressed you don't get the feeling he runs or chumps out. But he likes making music, is creative with it, and has a fairly unique style. He does typify Charlotte really well:

He still goes material sometimes, and he def still on the ladies man movement, but if you followed his career arc there was a clear shift shortly after SXSW, where his primary image became being a gangsta, being a shooter. The other stuff became afterthoughts, whereas initially, he talked about "keeping the stick" like everybody else, but he wasnt running on every track or every show/appearance talking about how he knock nikkas down:
