Haha nah they're just drunk, I saw this type of dance when I made a (in hindsight probably ill-advised) stop at a town outside Cancun after I met this little Mexican tenderoni in Cocobongo. Salute to all my Mexican brehs.

young people are too socially liberal

I think the GOP's only hope is to throw the christian right in the bushes

but even then they need to get more diverse/inclusive in their language and policies

so the only way they can get a stable "in" with these groups is to just focus on economic conservatism

Frankly I think the Dems have a natural majority if they can just capture some of the south somehow

I think there are a lot of young folks who would choose a party focused on economics over social issues. I mean basically all the GOP has to do is adopt the Dems' socially liberal views but spin them in a libertarian way, and then promote self-sufficiency + economic strength over the Dems' culture of dependency and wealth villifying

can we get rid of one party first

then focus on shaping the goals of the other one

don't play them as equals on some cold war ish :heh:

How does getting rid of a party solve anything

If there is no choice there is no accountability

This flip flop shows how having more than 1 party works in everyone's favor... GOP is realizing their old ways are :trash:... if they become appealing to moderates then the Dems will have to step their shyt up... etc. etc.

Latinos about to become the strongest voting bloc in the nation. Like I said in the other thread, Latinos need to learn the lessons of the past, and refuse to be an automatic vote for Democrats. We can get both parties to entice our interests.

Unlikely, the Republican Party cannot just toss it's base in the bushes over night and it's base is diametrically opposed to your interests. Just like how it is diametrically opposed to the interests of African-Americans. The Republicans are not going to become a more right-wing version of the Democratic Party over night. There will be no point in voting for the light weight version of the real thing.

Most of the economic and social issues that Hispanics and African-Americans face overlap. The Hispanic population is being catered to now only because of how fast their population has grown to the point where it can actually make a difference. But it's still a difficult balancing act for Republicans. Working class white guys are probably the people most likely to feel that Hispanics are stealing their jobs. Do Republicans really want to become the same as Democrats on that issue? They're going to have to toss that entire Tea Party crowd in the bushes to be sustainable long-term. But that crowd is doubling down.

I agree.
The dems will have a harder time winning the some of the south than the GOP will have winning some of the 3.

THink about it.

You're hardcore GOP, they just swapped stance on abortion.
Election time comes.
Who do you vote for...GOP, at least they are fiscally conservative.

You're a woman. They just swapped stance on abortion. You're fiscally conservative.
Election time comes.
Who do you vote for.

Basically in order for the dems to make inroads into the south they need to become more racist. Which wont work. The rethugs just need to stop trying to change what already is (abortion, gay marriage) and focus on finance to take votes away.

What are you talking about

Getting rid of the republican party doesn't leave us with only the democratic party

because then the democratic party will split like it did after Obama got elected

between liberals, democrats and progressives

we are not all the same on the left, and we are not all the same in the states

if it means winning yes i think they have to. What have they got to lose? THe bubba and cooter vote?

Whats teh alternative for joe schmoe republican if they swap stances on social issues?

If they take the, "we believe in the constitution and the seperation of church and state, we believe in personal responsibility and while we don't personally agree with certain things because of our religion, we understand that ultimately people are responsible for their own actions. That being said, we will no longer OPPOSE gay marriage and we will no longer seek to UNDO abortion rights.

It's not like they even have to do anything, their platform is an offensive plateform, the democrats played defense. If they just stop attacking what are you left with. FISCAL issues. More people can get down with that IMHO. and learn to take the moderate approach...

If played right, which I doubt, rethugs could potentially make moves by becoming a fiscally focused party.

If they were to ever believe this, they wouldn't be as devout about their faith.

This is who they are as ppl. You're not going to change their political philosophy, because its a reflection of their biblical philosophy.

Good luck though :myman:

The way the current system is set up, they would only have to come up with one presidential "candidate"

That candidate would be chosen by the most powerful of the three factions you mention

And he would have no competitor. Zero accountability

I think the GOP has an opportunity to reinvent itself here. It won't be the first time. And it would keep the Dems on their toes, as opposed to completely removing all accountability as you suggest

No. No. No. What you just described is the perfect example of why people on the left don't understand the working class guy on the right. Those social issues mean a lot to them. You say Joe Schmo as if the educated don't already vote Democratic. Joe Schmo is why the Republican Party is still viable. It is based on cultural issues and beliefs. Beliefs that have persevered over generations. More importantly, what makes you believe that Republicans will win on fiscal issues? Were you not paying attention from 2006-2008?

What happened? The Democrats brought in pro-life Democrats (Dixiecrats if you will), and all these Bluedog guys and they took back everything. Their economic positions were the same, but their social stances gave those people on the fence the green light to back them. They gave into that cultural war. That's how they got their majority and that's why they were a big tent and Obama couldn't get them to do everything he wanted.

The Republicans I'm talking about are the guys who make up the tea party and they have always voted against what we consider to be their economic interests on the basis of cultural issues. If Republicans give that up then how are they going to win back the Midwest and places like Carolina that are more sympathetic to the Democratic economic vision when it is stated to them in personal terms?

I've been going to Mexico since my college days - Acapulco and Cancun. After my first time I met a lot of cool people (4 Italian college kids that decided to move to Cancun, bedding one of the fine resort stage acts) so that keeps me going back. The beach, the club/bar scene, off-roading, cave diving, rafting and people.

I also had some bad experiences though(prostitute pick-pocketed my phone in the middle of the street after leaving a club - I was drunk, my debt-it card getting counterfeited and getting most of my money withdrawn - thank god for FDIC insurance).

You need to go bro, if only to experience Cocobongo.

they can't "reinvent" themselves because this is who they are

this isn't like apple trying to reinvent its market perception of recycling ideas like new aol internet disk

you're talking about living functioning ppl

Please explain to me how a person like Bauchmann reinvents herself? Or a person like Rod Parsley (the prosperity preacher). Again this is the shyt they live. This is them.

The republicans y'all are talking about are Mitt Romney, John Huntsman, David Brooks. The moderate "I'm just a republican cause I like Reagans semen" electorate.

The republican party CANNOT reinvent itself without 1 of those 2 contrasting groups breaking a part. The Moderate Reaganbots have to leave and create a new party based on economic policies only. And the "I live by my faith" right wingers have to break a part.

But the two cannot coexist as a "party" by putting Rubio as the head and trying to "reinvent" itself. Its not gonna happen.

The republican party died in 2008. The grave just wasn't deep enough.
