It's not an unpopular opinion at all.

It's just not realistic. Go to a range and actually shoot a gun. Go hunting and try to shoot something that actually moves.

There's no, "just shoot his leg!" "Just shoot him in the arm!" "Can't they shoot at his feet and ankles when he runs so it's not a lethal kill?"

That bullet can hit just above the knee and hit an artery and the suspect could bleed out.

Once that bullet enters the body, it could travel through tissue and cause unintended damage to other parts of the body, organs, arteries.

One bullet can go through a leg or an arm, ricochet off bone or go through and hit something else. A bullet can go in your chest and exit and go through your arm.

There's no guarantees. But there is good practice. It's one thing to shoot at a stationary target. Or a target facing you, moving targets are hard and moving extremities (legs, arms) are even harder.
