After listening to it twice.
I like he kept the boogie Funk to a minimum. The higher production value would have only exposed him.
Dam makes solid music but his compositional skills pale in comparison to the O.G funk producers of the era like Leon Sylvers III (who is featured on the album).
On invite the light, Dam Wisely branched into downtempo RnB and a mix of Electronic genres( electro and house).
In fact the best songs from this album, all sound like they were unearthed from a lost 80s cabinet arcade game or a lupin the 3rd spoof of Tron.
Whatever muse left daft punk after Discovery must have found its way into Dame Funk.
This isn't a feel good cali funk record and It aint toeachhisown, but it's still a solid, 3 1/2 mics.
Pros:
1.Way more experimental with the productions.
2. The Guests held it down.
Cons:
1. Repetitive chord progressions.
2. Some of the tracks are way too long.
3. Dam's shower singing clashes with the glossy instrumentals.
