Wait, so you're telling me you thought these townhall meetings were literally randoms off the street who just happen to be articulate, well-spoken and knowledgeable about current events? You don't think that these news organizations vet ... not only the people asking the questions, but the questions themselves?
The rare times someone in the campaign doesn't do their due diligence, you get a crazy woman accusing the opponent of being a secret Muslim, or a member of the socialist party making weird faces while standing directly behind the candidate/president. Both the campaign and the media have a vested interest in keeping some sort of decorum and making the candidate not seem terrible, so nearly everything is pre-planned.
Obviously the people were reading prepared questions, and weren't just riffing up there. Now, none of us can say whether those were questions from the people themselves, or if they were given by CNN. But to me it seems like the questions were, for the most part, perfectly fair and not just obvious softballs or posed dishonestly.
And I must mention this again.... it took place in D.C.! EVERYONE in D.C. has fund raised for some PAC, or volunteered for some Democrat's campaign, or held office on some level themselves. I don't see the labels as particularly deceptive and don't see how having lobbyists or DNC officials themselves ask these generic questions is problematic.
