Gallinari had surgery to repair a torn meniscus but the ACL reconstruction was delayed. There had been a belief on the doctor's part that the ACL could be strengthened to play again without the traditional procedure, but that never happened, sources said.

Nuggets surgeon Dr. Steve Traina performed the surgery in Denver on Tuesday morning. He did not perform the initial procedure."

ACL was torn the first time but the doctor only repaired the meniscus and told him "just do some exercises and stretches to strengthen your torn ACL"

thats terrible. should have fixed both injuries in the same surgery. who does that????

Only in hindsight can you say he should have fixed both. But at the time of the initial injury if Gallinari was having more symptoms from the meniscus than the ACL then it made sense to fix the meniscus only. People play with ACL-deficient knees all the time.
