SOHH/The Coli is the forum that Kobe built... i remember first logging in to SOHH back in 2000 as a 15 year old, and reading arguments about Kobe already being the best player in the league at 20 years old and the haters bringing up names like Vince, Iverson, T-Mac, Grant Hill, etc.. arguments would go on every single day for 15 years.:mjcry:

the most polarizing athlete in the message board era....:wow:

Was Magic vs. Bird NOT the OG stan war? :wtf:

I don't think so, I don't think sports fans were quite as cynical and hateful as they are these days. I mean you would be hard pressed to find any Lakers fan who hates Bird or any Celtics fan who hates Magic. It was a GOAT rivalry but kind of a mutual respect thing. There are Stanleys out there who have been burned by Kobe that will go to their grave cursing his name.

There always have been rivalries, in everything.

But when forums started taking off, and we're talking specifically basketball, Jordan didn't have any clear cut rival. It was pretty much considered he was the greatest.

Kobe came along just in time when the internet starting getting serious, mainly late 90's AOL, and everything took off. Groups of fans were far more easily able to communicate, group up and do battle online.

Advanced statistics killed stan wars. there's nothing more boring than an argument when that shyt gets rolling in. I'm not saying it's not helpful when determining better players and what not, but it literally takes all the fun out of just about every argument and makes it far too serious.

:dahell:

Boston hated LA so much they chanted for the team that beat them in the Eastern Conference Finals to go beat the Lakers. There is nothing that tops that, they were cheering for the team that was beating them to go out and beat the Lakers because they'd rather that than another Lakers championship.

There was no mutual respect, these cities hated one another. There was just no internet to showcase it all.

Props for the shoutout :salute:

If me and @Boesky went to the same PG county middle school in 97-98, we probably woulda thrown hands over Kobe. Me Pro, and he not enlightened.

I feel like a battle hardened veteran at this point. @Boesky was prolly one of them a$$holes that rooted for every potential Kobe rival just cuz Kobe a joker off the court. Even to this day, I feel like I'd spit in f'ucktoni's face after what he did.

Facts only :yeshrug:

But honestly I stopped actively hating Kobe in like 2007. I usually root against the Lakers cuz I'd like to see other players win...but the hate died when he was playing on those trash Smush Parker teams. I only hate on winners...
