how could you call that shyt rap when he's not even rapping to begin with? never understood how this dude got a pass with whatever music he was putting out. he was trying to say he was a rapper but yet he was doing everything BUT rapping.

I think because there's not really a name for what he does.

It's not rapping, but its not RnB either. But since Cudi identifies himself as a rap influenced artist, his music has to be labeled as "Alternative Rap music"

And no. I'm not a Cudi Stan. Just a music nerd :troll:

in order to identify it as rap, it has to have raps in the first place. i think cudi is trying to disrespect the rap audience's intelligence to tell you the truth.

I get what Cudi's saying here... His frustration lies with his label marketing and promoting him as a "niche act" because on the surface that's what he appears to be, but when you look at the numbers his music is POPular and reaonates with A LOT of people, so he deserves to be on a platform that is supposedly there to give the people what they want (radio). Radio's argument for years has been "it's not our job to break artist, we simply play what's hot" well, if those #'s don't indicate that there's a large group of people who think his shyt is "hot" then what does? He's tired of being placed in a box and having a ceiling on his success. He wants to branch out to a wider audience which is understandable. Sure he has territory a lot urban artist don't, but does that mean he should be excluded from the traditional urban territories? I'm pretty sure out of all the Cudi fans there's quite a few who have cars and listen to the radio on their way to and from work, etc. so there is a demand, but no supply. He's simply calling for his label to spend more marketing dollars at radio like Trini's label is doing for him. I'm not a big Cudi fan, but I understand what he's saying. Radio force feeding it's listeners one specific style of music is fukking ridiculous, so as a music lover I applaud artist when they go on rants like these.

He's rapping but not in a traditional way, he's flowing, rhyming, using rhyme techniques and on :what:

What do you mean? (I'm seriously asking ^^)
The Weeknd was certified gold cause his albums were counted 3 times.
But he still sold what the billboard says he sold 145k.
Multi-disc
Multi-disc albums are counted once for each disc within the album if it is over 100 minutes in length or is from the vinyl era. For example, each copy of The Smashing Pumpkins's Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness (running time of 121:39), OutKast's Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (running time of 134:56), and Shania Twain's Up! (145:44), both double albums, were counted twice, meaning each album was certified diamond after 5 million copies were shipped. Pink Floyd's The Wall and The Beatles' White Album, both vinyl-era, are counted double even though their running times are under the minimum requirement.

After reading the first page..

If I were him I might be on suicide watch.. If those guys are potential fans/customers

I'll be honest I've never heard him..

Seems like he needs a new direction based on these replies tho.. Lol@his rant.

Real hustlers don't have time to complain during business hours.

stop being smart dumb, radio's been like this for as long as i can remember. yall know what kind of songs get played, what artists generally get spins, and who the radio fanbase is. i know why the trinidad james song is blowing up radio, and i know why cudi's is not. this demand you speak of quantified by youtube views and itunes sales is just speculation

:scusthov: at all the "he's simply" "he wants" words you're putting in his mouth to :cape:. let me do the same. he just wants attention. he just wants to be what people are talking about again because he feels people have forgotten about him

lastly, i hate when artists complain about something like radio. you wanna get on the radio, make some shyt like pursuit of happiness using mgmt again or sample lady gaga or do a single with drake.

i'm also a casual fan checking for the new album, just in case you were wondering :youngsabo:
