Outside of the legends we don't really have no one new putting out real music. Do we? How did we fall behind? Trying to make music for girls in the club? Trying to make music for people to dance too? Why did we ever abandon bars and storytelling?

@Peter Popoff what happened to us broski?

I guess so. This Kendrick v Drake beef probably gave rap some life support. But I was hoping some new cats who sound like they from NY would come out of NY. I mean I guess Griselda is doing it but they're basically the diet Lox.

Not only are there new guys putting out music who deserve an audience, there's a lot of legends who put out music too. It just doesn't get to our eyes or ears. I always come across older rappers who apparently put out an album in recent years and I just found out.

New York has needed alternative media to push local hip hop since the early 2010s and it never came around. Hip hop radio and publications in NY have always been aimed at a national audience. Akademiks and Budden are from NJ but don't push local artists. Budden doesn't push upcoming artists in general, so his platform is borderline irrelevant. Gillie & Wallo don't really push Philly artists either.

In the late 2000s, WorldStar was the alt media for NY rappers. Max, French, Tru-Life and even Maino, Uncle Murda, Mazaradi Fox, etc were part of that wave that coincided with DVDs, but WSHH became national-oriented pretty soon and eventually weirdo rappers. They're not putting locals on like that.

That's weird . I don't expect anything for AK but Joe and Gilly should be tryna look out. NY, NJ and PA used to have the damn game in a chokehold. Now it's all about chasing clicks and air time.
