Chomsky forgets that Reagan was supposedly against the Establishment (they wanted Ford and then Bush Sr.). Robert Taft got screwed by the elites in 1950s in favor of Ike. Nixon's Southern Strategy was to get moderate voters, not the extremist racist ones (Wallace got those).

Chomsky cites abortion and guns coming up as issues but these were only reactions to gov't issuing several gun control laws and allowing abortion to be legal when only four states permitted it prior to the early 1970s. Before the sixties, it was common for a public school to have a shooting club with students bringing rifles to schools.

Yeah he was spot on. Esp when he says Republicans are best at marketing.
I went to a Democrat forum here last and imho it was so underwhelming. I see why so many people are leaving the party.

The whole southern strategy thing is pretty fukking evil though
But it's not only that it's evil, it also is a very clear indication about how stupid people are, and no not the right specifically, but we as a specie, our minds are so hijackable it's like who needs mind control.

How can we ever have change with elites on top and everyone else just so stupid, we can never have change with this level of stupidity amongst voters, both sides of the isle because there's loads of other strategies on the left.

So we got powerful greedy people on top, a bunch of dumbass voters at the bottom, and corrupt lawmakers, corrupt law enforcers in the middle etc...
Oh ya and half the country hates the other half.

There's no chance of victory in this picture ya'll

And not only that, they got the people to put so much attention on Russia but these same people are fine with living in an environment where you say Israel has too much influence on America you get called an anti-semetic.

Not to try and schill for the Democratic party or anything but his take on Russiagate was off base for a couple of reasons:

1. He frames the Russiagate issue as simple political gamesmanship by the Democrats. While Im sure the Democrats loved and were hoping to use the controversy for political aims, this goes beyond competitive politics. If there was reason to believe that Trump did conspire or intended to conspire with an operation aimed towards allowing a foreign entity to influence the election, then that is something worth investigating and it is the duty of elected representatives to look into. There was way to much smoke on the Trump campaign to not investigate and if we were in a different less partisan era maybe the Republicans would have been more cooperative as they were during Watergate with Nixon.

2. He makes it seem like it was a longshot to suggest Trump conspired with the Russians when in fact it seemed more than likely given the fact that it was proven Russia did try to and that Trump campaign official met with Russian operatives with the attempt to receive their help and then later lied about meeting with them. There was enough smoke to ask for an investigation.

3. Comparing Nethanyahu's unannounced visit to Congress with the covert sophisticated operation that the Russian's used is reaching hard body. I dont think Russia's actions had a major effect on the election but the fact that they have developed an apparatus to try and influence elections and that the current president was aiding and abetting that is nothing to sneeze at.

4. The idea I've seen from Chompsky and other russiagate skeptics on the left that Democrats and the media only focused on Russiagate is unfounded and completely dishonest to me. While, everyone has their own opinions about how much attention a certain issue should get I think its dishonest to say that things like The Wall, Child Separstion, the Migrant Caravans, the Muslim Ban, North Korea, Venezuela, haven't been reported or gotten attention. The reason why Russiagate seems to be the most concurrent story is simple:
a) Its was an investigation so there's always a slow drip of inforrmation that comes out.
b) Trump added to the story each day cuz he kept obstructing justice and doing so in a way that waa so open and unconstitutional.

5) The idea that the findings of no conspiracy probably gifted Trump the election is such a narrow interpretation of the findings and dont reflect what we've seen in the polls where his approval rating dropped 5 points and is at the lowest its been. Thats despite all the propaganda and spin the president's done about how this report exonerates him. The reason why is because while the report doesnt prove that they took part in any actions with the Russians it shows that he woulda been more than willing to accept info that woulda been helpful and do everything in his power to disrupt a legal investigation.

Y’all know that Chomsky responds to his personal email at MIT, right?

If you got qualms, take it up with the man himself

(For the record, I know trump conspired and think having a republican investigate him was obviously a mistake).
