Imagine a virus with the infection rate of COVID and the symptoms/mortality of Rabies. It would be the perfect killer.
I dont think its implausible at all, lots of diseases, infections, and extraneous circumstances affect the brain. A zombie apocalypse isn't improbable.
Hypothermia makes you remove your clothes even though you are literally freezing to death.
Hydrophobia makes you not want to drink even though you are dying of thirst.
Some illnesses overrides survival instinct, so some new virus/parasite could come up where it uses the host to feed the parasite and boom! Zombie Apocalypse.
Parasitic animals starve the host sometimes by stealing its nutrients.It happens in the animal kingdom all the time. Many of us have worms and dont know.
