I wonder why actors back then were so talented compared to now?
Or maybe im wrong and we do have a lot of good actors today?
American actors were more likely to emerge from acting schools back then, and they often were theater actors before entering film. Pacino, De Niro, Meryl Streep...nearly all of the great 60s/70s actors started in theater and small art films after leaving acting school.
Today a lot of American actors aren't classically trained. It's why British actors constantly win major roles over American actors. They still cycle their young actors through school whereas here you can get onto a TV show without much training, then if you're hot enough you'll end up in films.
Also think about the great black actors in history. Paul Robeson, Sidney Poitier, James Earl Jones, Denzel Washington...they were all products of acting school and/or theater.
