I would normally dismiss this as paranoia and I love Kendrick and what he brings to the game.. I love Section 80 and GKMC and was feeling his Control verse... But I was listening to Hot 97 yesterday and was disgusted on how Ebro and Rosenberg were caping for him and dismissing the talent of anyone who doesn't sell records or sell out concert tours..

And these are supposed to be the "real heads" or "backpackers" in the industry.. If I was an upcoming NY rapper I would be discouraged...

They basically said...Unless you sell the most records or have hits in radio rotation you shouldn't have a voice in the culture...Which pretty much alienates everyone rapping today outside of like 5 artists...

They are really trying to actively cheat to protect the princes from the paupers...And they should actually be neutral and unbiased...

I think the argument is a bit different than that. Not that everyone doesn't get a voice just that some are louder than others. Usually if a guy sells a lot but is not a "good" rapper people get on em for lyrics. If a rapper happens to be above average they get lumped in that lyricist/underground realm and people get on em for not selling. Kendrick is lucky enough to have both. 9th Wonder and Young Guru brought up the same point in their little back and forth above you.

Kendrick does benefit from the Interscope machine, of course. However this idea I see people floating around that he only blew up because of the machine isnt true. If they can just make anyone blow up then why do a ton of their artist flop badly? There is a lot of people signed to Interscope or an Interscope controlled imprint.

You guys forgot that Machine Gun Kelly (flopped badly) and YELLAWOLF (not existent) are both signed to Interscope right? Last night at the Angel game I saw a super broke looking artist by the name of Mickey Avalon, also signed to Interscope, and never went anywhere.

....making HITS WITH LYRICISM in these upcoming weeks and continue on that wave. We will see if these new nikkas got the message.

Bingo.

The issue here is that any artist with half fame would test this and see if it was an empty bomb threat. And they sat until it blew over

While all the nobodies bit the bait.

If he then dropped hits weekly on some G.O.O.D. Friday music tip, he would've forced their hand. Cause that is a takeover move.

But he dropped that verse then sat back. No need for a response cause kdot aint really tryna do nu'n:yawn:

I'm actually saying the opposite...They (mainstream radio and journalism) don't make anyone "blow up"...They wait until someone "blows up" then jump on their wave and refuse to give anyone else a chance at discourse...

They were describing all 27 responses to the Kendrick verse last week as uneccessary whining and corny... When in reality it produced some genuinely good moments for "true heads" that care about more than record and concert sales and catchy hooks..

And I LOVE Kendrick and feels that he deserves everything he's getting.. He just doesn't need all this extra help from corporate hip hop...I have more faith in letting twitter decide then these payola frauds with personal relationships invested with artists and labels...

The diss in and of itself was...... He called out dudes that ain't even bout that life. Real HipHop responded. Kendrick didn't. Its Rap Industry vs HipHop. The Rappers have no place doing HipHop shyt. Kendrick shouldn't have said anything in the first place. shyt like that is what sparked the East Coast/ West Coast beef. And these dudes aint bout that life. Kendrick stepped out of line and shot himself in the foot with that move.

Luckily, he's industry. I see him now as HipPop. So now one gives a fukk. His fans will stay sucking his lolly till they get to the stick. But HipHop remembers.

This is nothing like what started the east/west beef. :what:

And he called out his peers. So far, none responded. Whether or not you like his music is irrelevant. What was he supposed to do, call out rappers most people don't care about and/or never heard of to "keep it hip-hop?" to people like you, that don't like him in the first place?

What was he supposed to do? Keep doing him. Why fire shots in the first place? That ain't something to be taken lightly. He was straight talking smoke on the whole track. The only people who fell for it, are the ones that would fall for some Allen Iverson shake n bake.

He doesn't have to "keep it hip-hop" to me just keep it real to himself. Calling himself KONY and WestCoast at the same damn time? That's some kung-fu treachery. He's trying to compare himself to going EastCoast/WestCoast like Pac/Machiavelli. I've read the Prince. That's why I can see through this. It's matters not if I like him or not, I'm indifferent. But this move? Transparent. Not impressed.

And he was fine where he was in my opinion. I don't know why he came out his lane and did this....

Further example: He's asking Drake to step up his bars.
You see why Drizzy didn't even respond? You tell me what to do, and I respond to you in a timely manner, then I'm acting like your ARE King and that I follow your orders. Everyone on his level ignored him. Everyone "above" him, ignored him. This stunt was for the fans. All Kendrick did was put a target on his back. That's why everyone who responded, considered "below" him, went at him. The fans just see numbers and popularity and charts. Artists see past that.

But looking at the core, the people who see it from the street level; Drizzy just made it on Toronto's City Council, He is Promoting Toronto Music. I'm not a Drake stan. But THAT was a genius move. The masses are easily entertained. If we're playing chess. What Drake did was an Actual Power Move.

They saying Kendrick changed the game with this already forgotten diss; empty words. DRAKE sits on his City's Council. What a response. Machiavelli would clap for that.

This is HipHop (MCing, DJing, Graffiti, B-boying), we all know at the end of the day actions speak louder than words. Even Hip Hop knows "its bigger than HipHop" Rip Big and Pac.

You sound like a clown. You talk a good game about the 4 pillars of hip-hop but want to give Drake cool points for sitting on Toronto's City Council. Is that the 5th pillar in Canada? The fukk does that have to do with anything musical or hip-hop related?

Oh you're from Canada. Now the ulterior motive makes sense. Nevermind.

The reactions were completely disproportionate to Kendrick's verse. I loved his verse, but the resulting media attention, twittering, c list-rapper responses, message board activity, was more than just a little ridiculous. Now that it's all pretty much said and done and the hoopla has died down, you can really see just how boring the state of Hip Hop affairs really are. I think during the time 50 Cent was at his peak was and will be the last time frame that HipHop had colorful and interesting characters. That was the last time frame for when shots were fired, it was worth paying attention to. I loved Kendrick's verse and competitive spirit, but let's be honest, he named a dozen rappers and pooped on a region, and in hindsight Sharknado was more entertaining. Neither Kendrick, nor anyone who's responded, or mentioned in his verse, can hold a lighter to the late 90's and early 2000's era when it comes to entertaining beef and competiveness.

Ulterior Motive? Hip hop is loved world wide. Music is loved world wide. American culture gets love worldwide.
No secret alot of Canada's Culture is influenced by the States. Your The China to our Japan. Canada/Us relations have plenty of history. Cultural influence knows no borders.

I talk a good game but want to give Drake cool points? I'm indifferent to both Drake and Kendrick, nothing personal. I listen to a few of their songs, but not enough to say I'm a fan, core or otherwise. It's just my observation. I didn't "give" Drake anything. He took the mantle. Don't get your panties in a bunch.

What does Drake being on City Council to promote Music have to do with HipHop or Music? I'm not answering this question. Go find that 5th pillar yourself dude.

Can't argue you there fam, I agree.

Sure there didn't need to be 27 responses from the likes of some of those bums but it brought up a great discussion, a nice response from at least 5 guys by my count, and it seems to have re-ignited a Lupe Fiasco.
