I’ve always felt like Kendrick’s career mirrored Kanye’s a bit more.
GKMC with the ode to Class hip-hop story telling and lyricism with music that still sounded current a la College Dropout.
To Pimp A Butterfly with the more jazz and orchestrated album with involved social elements and more grandiose production a la Late Registration (minus the hits).
DAMN. the album that showcases Kendrick’s ability to blend in and do the current sound and have chart success while still being true to himself a la Graduation.
They’re not exact parallels but I’ve always felt like they kind of relate to each other.
