Yeh that's true. However, research and development doesn't warrant the high price, it's mostly marketing (for shoes take yeezy for example, absolutely not performance shoes but more expensive than performance shoes adidas actually spent money for R and D.

There's supply chain. And tooling and the need to pay all their employees. The brand certainly impacts the price but it's not as astronomical as some make it seem.
