They keep trying to make DW JR a lead actor when he works better as part of an ensemble cast. It’s why his best work continues to be Coach with New Girl.
CBS must see something in him as there’s talk of giving him another show as lead actor.

And he's also good in Happy Endings, but that's probably down to the show being great more than him elevating any of the material
I think he's just likeable and has become a familiar face so he's easy to cast and build around.
But yeah, he's an ensemble actor at best. When he talks too much and starts playing around he's pretty annoying to watch.

I fukkin knew it. Right when the show was finding it's footing and they introduced Damon's granddaughter. The last episode was great too.

This was my experience. I watched the first 3 episodes and like two more random episodes (I like the neighborhood and usually watch live), but my god is the show terrible, and Damon jr just comes across as an even cornier slightly higher pitched version of Damon sr - and thing is I’ve liked jr in his other shows and movies.
