Even tho it was clear he got his swagger and rhyme style from Slick Rick heads still enjoyed Dana's music because he made great records and had one of the greatest producers of the 80's doing his beats (Hurby Luv Bug) plus he was in a group with Slick Rick before their debut albums dropped so he got that co sign from Slick Rick

The Show came out in 1985 and we didn't hear nothing from Rick again until 1988

Dana Dane With Fame album came out in 87 and heads bumped that album up until Slick Rick came thru and showed the real Art of Stortelling

i don't see it that way. Dana and Rick went to school together and was in the same group. Its very common for members of a group to have the same style as one another. Look at Bone Thugs, Onyx, Das Efx. All of them Rap and dress the same

Slick Rick and Dana Dane was in the Get Fresh Crew together. The real reason Dana catches flack for sounding like a group member is because of the putting on a British accent and he's from Brooklyn. But that's no big deal if u think about it Slick Rick was fronting with the accent too.. even tho Rick was born in London he grew up in Ny and didn't Really have that accent by the late 80's. Listen to old interviews he spoke just as New York as Dana Dane

IF I was around back then???? I know how hot he was, I was there. All you typed , I understand that, I do. I'm just telling you why I see him as the fraud he is. And FYI, it doesn't matter who dropped FIRST, it matters who was legit and who wasn't. He dropped his album first using RICK'S style and nothing you can say will change the facts. Dana Dane wasn't from England, the record executives told him to rap with an English accent to sound like MC Ricky D from the hit record "The Show". and he came off sounding more English than Rick

They used to be a part of the same crew (The Kangol Crew) and his record was fresh so nobody tripped on him but when Great Adventures was released, that album effectively ended Dana Dane's career because Slick Rick was legitimately from England and had come out first.

Dana Dane had no identity after so he just tried to replicate the success of "Dana dane with fame" in two different rap eras which flopped horribly ...wtf is his appeal at this point??

I guess what I'm trying to say is Dana Dane is different from dudes like The Realist or Guerrilla Black. They never met 2 PAC & Biggie and tryed to sound like them after Pac and Biggie already came and went Leaving a huge Impact on Hiphop. And The Realist, Guerrilla Black made terrible music.

Dana Dane dropped an album that me and you agree we loved... and he dropped this album before Slick Rick made an Impact on Hiphop with the Great Adventures album

So back to my OP all I'm saying is Dana Dane held us down with a good album until Slick Rick dropped a classic

Did he swagger jack Slick Rick? Yes

Was HipHop heads loving the Dana Dane With Fame album? Yes. No doubt about it
