boo hoo nikkaz it's 2018 and the internet exists. if they can't get together some business plans and form their own labels :yeshrug:. VP records has nothing to hold over them anymore this ain't the era where recording music was expensive and you needed label budgets. Nobody buying or pressing up physical copies like that anymore so you can't say you need their distribution... what is the excuse?

somewhere in the world a Black person is always getting pimped and crying about it. It needs to stop.

Reggaetton ate off their platform and transitioned to trap

Cacs ate off their platform and got mega hits like those culture vultures Major Lazer and their "tropical music" songs

I'm tired of nikkaz acting helpless. fukkouttahere

so all those performers can't pool no money together.

you really gonna tell me they can't find a Black investor from Jamaica?

It cost less money than it ever has to be involved in the music industry. Money isn't a road block.

Latino artists are doing it off youtube, there really isn't any excuses breh... we need to stop thinking we can fall back on excuses every time the community is being preyed on.

It's not expensive to make music or get it on a stream platform in 2018.

Many of the Latinos that blew up over the years are all signed to Latin branches of UMG. They didn't just suddenly start posting on YouTube and make billions of views just like that. They have heavy label backing.

Jamaicans do not have that advantage.

what exactly do you need "backing" for? recording costs?

you don't wanna talk solutions you just want to paint road blocks. there's no road blocks to getting music to market these days it's rather easy as fukk.

all the new platforms the internet has provided and avenues to get music out and brehs STILL want to insist on acting helpless cool. :mjlol:

It's hard it's so hard breh.... then let them take all the money since it's so hard don't complain.

It's not expensive to make music or get it on a stream platform in 2018.

Respect and understand where you're coming from but a few things, just speaking as someone who looks at it through a foreign eye.

- You're right YouTube and even Soundcloud can be vehicles for growth there are other things that are crucial. You need influencers, you need trained (formal and informal) tech training, you need a developed media landscape that identify and promoter artist. You need a streaming site plug, a lot of that organic streaming site growth isn't organic.
- A lot of reggae artists have been banned from traveling or have difficulties traveling to key and sizeable reggae/dancehall market, that can impact their ability to network
- As someone mentioned, a lot of Latin acts have connections with Latin media, Jamaicans/West Indians don't always have that due to scale. I would be shocked if there's more than 5 million in the english speaking Caribbean. While Reggae is a world wide business, Jamaica is still the epicenter and it's an island with 3 million people.
- Even though the cost of doing business in America has fell as technology it can still be high in foreign countries
- Technology is opening a lot of doors but developing countries still have gatekeepers (radio, promoters, djs)

There's a lot of dope artists and sounds in the Caribbean, a lot of ambitious people but it's very difficult to compare what we see here in the states and what's happening in developing countries.
