Just a heads up,
@rapbeats legit tried to compare playing in his rec league with "assassins" @ the Y to Steph Curry in another thread.
oh so we going that route. where assassinate the character of the debater because you can't destroy his actual content of his words. I see. you're getting real desperate outchea bruh.
and yes i can compare rec league 3 pt snipers, that can shoot off the dribble around screens etc. guys who will launch a 3 ball from darn near half court. dude who have played professional basketball. this aint YOUR rec league malta. these aint little boys. the people i'm talking about are the same height as steph with crazy handles and a wicket shot. with other shooters on his team.
These teams play the exact same, rec league, to college, to nba. But you wouldnt know that. because you think just because its the pros everything is so much different. its not. the talent level is higher, the size, speed of guys are greater. but the basics are still the basics. its still a 10 foot basket, they still count 3's. and shoot in a rec league the 3pt line is closer ,making up for the difference in ability to shoot from distance from a nba guy to a regular joe baller or a semi pro baller.
i'll explain to you one more time.
The idea of Don Nelson. put a bunch of run and gun guys in the game. to make you chase them around.
MDA offense. hurry up the court beat the defense. go hard to the middle of the paint. then catch the defense off guard then kick it back out for a trey ball.
gsw- small ball like don nelson. hurry up like mda. but a half court swing the ball offense with a hint of triangle and coach pop. ball movement, player movement, screens, back screens, screens for the ball handler.
Because gsw most of the time is a smaller team. smaller at the C and PF position when they go small which kills people. They HAVE to shoot the 3 at a high rate to win most games. If they dont, they will lose due to the size advantage. the rim is still only 10 feet.
Everyone knows, even if you're a high school coach, if you have a team full of midgets, and no real big men. and you are in a league full of teams with big guys at the C and PF spots. You should play small ball. and shoot more 3's. you have a higher chance of winning that way. shooting a bunch of 2's vs the bigs will have you taking more L's than trying to take more 3's even though technically its a lower precentage shot.
If you ever play in any league on any level and you understand what i just said. You will learn how to defend those types of teams. because you already know "These guys are running and chucking. better shut that 3 down and run them off the 3 line make them take a different shot."
But because guys have been trained for so many years to protect the paint and not allow a guy to drive for layups. they have the can't help its. they can't help but to fall for a curry dribble drive to the paint. and the guy guarding friggin klay drops down to help on curry. FOR WHAT? and then he kicks it out, now some idiot chases the ball to iggy(FOR WHAT he isnt money from 3). and then guess who's WIDE open in the corner? KLAY. FOR THREEEEEE.
you see it time and time again. its because these guys have been trained so long to guard a certain way. they are like robots. it will take awhile to deprogram them. it may be a few years before the nba catches up defensively with what the warriors are doing.
It took greg pop a few years to figure out how to defeat the shaq and kobe lakers. he realized it wasnt kobe or shaq. it was friggin Fisher and horry. fisher to be exact. he was killing them. at one point i think he was shooting like 60% from 3 in the playoffs. or something ridiculous like that. so the spurs just sat a guy in fishes lap. kobe would drive. and think to kick it to fish like old times. bam someone is there for the deflection or there all over fish so he can raise up with a clean look. he makes one. then bricks 2. uh oh. that aint 60% from 3. now we got a chance.
this is what oscar was talking about even though he was half hating on curry and the gang. but he had a legit point about how guys are defending curry and the team. its silly how bad the defensive schemes look vs them. sure they do somet things that make you look silly. but your scheme is wrong from the jump.
you dont stop curry from scoring. you stop him from shoot 3's. let him have other stuff. you dont stop klay. you stop him from shooting 3's while forcing him to play make. you dont stop draymond, you stop him from being a facilitator by playing the passing lanes and backing off of him turning him into a scorer. there's no guarantee this will work either. but you have a higher probability of winning when you do this.
