Two years ago, Tatum, Brown and Horford were all on the roster.
Tatum was drafted in 2017 so at the beginning of that year he wasn't in the NBA and Jaylen was on the bench for Jae Crowder, you know what I mean.
Horford wasn't part of no damn core and he definitely was no young potential star.
You can try to spin it anyway you want but we never had a core to build on before Tatum got drafted and Brown was given a chance to start. Ever since KG and Pierce got traded, we only had fillers that overachieved.
The plan was to get KD in the 2016 FA and use every asset to build another superteam around him, Horford and Hayward were free agents so they were basically just assets that didn't cost anything and were ready to get flipped for something better if there was an opportunity.
Kawhi played 9 games the year before, no wonder the best offer the Spurs could get was DeRozan which was a salary dump, the Raptors were ready to trade him for anything, so they didn't risk shyt.
Jaylen had averaged 18ppg with 30 point games in the playoffs and shot 40% from 3 for the season in his second year, Kawhi could have very well been done as a superstar at that time. Good for him that he wasn't, but there was no evidence that anybody was getting this Kawhi in return.
