What do you mean you understand where they're coming from?I believe it goes back to the 70's. Go check out the movie "Short eyes" it's an old movie that takes place in jail in New York. It was made in 1977 and Ricans say the n word in there like nothing. Certainly Hip Hop made the word more mainstream but it's always been a thing with Latinos, maybe not Mexicans back then but it for sure is now with them. I've never been offended when they say it to me because I understand where they coming from but the only time it pisses me off is when a white dude or Asian says it to me. I never seen anybody stomped out over it here in California but I guess that's just a Cali thing

Not at all. I'm PR and I used it just as ignorantly as everyone around me growing up on 152nd in Jackson ave. The building right next to the train station on the downtown side, you BX so I'm thinking you may know which one. That ugly ass word came out my mouth every other word, hugging my guy saying whatup my nikka??!! No one ever said anything to me. I didn't stop using the word until I said it on a bus one day and an elderly black woman sat next to me and quietly asked me why I was saying that word. I told her it's just a word we use. She explained where the word came from and I never uttered that shyt again .It's up to the dumbass using the word to check himself or like yall said, for someone else to check em, but nobodies really checking anybody. It takes someone with sense to pull someone aside and teach.
