Yep, your site will always be yours breh.. only thing that could be affected is whether or not your content will be accepted for use by advertisers. Things like google adsense or adwords for use on your websites will require a period of consideration time from google for them to decide whether your site can use their ad software to generate revenue...Does it have vps or dedicated servers?
Also, due to my site being controversial, will I still own my shyt? I can't have them trying to regulate my shyt and shutting it down soon as white supremacist start crying.
But all that aside, nobody can dictate how you run your site at any point as long as you don't host any copyrighted or unlawful content, in which case you might get a DMCA letter for removal of the content. Sites like liveleak, worldstar and many other adult entertainment sites still have advertiser support, so it's unlikely your subject matter is so controversial that you'll be stranded without any ad support anytime. And site hosts usually have a lot of ddos/software attack protection that comes standard, so you won't have to worry about that as they already maintain the security aspect of it automatically.
the topics you mentioned are definitely a niche subject area, so you can possibly save yourself the monthly fees for now until you get a good readership base. I know that once visitors start coming in to your kind of website, they often refer/bring other people they know since it's such a close-knit community.. I'm reminded of the times I used to visit the vigilant citizen and the same posters would be commenting at the bottom of each article; they would spread knowledge about other sites too just through word of mouth. Once you've created your site and are ready, maybe go to some sites or forums that offer similar range of topics and namedrop your site. Youtube also ties in strongly with these kinds of sites, so don't forget to make a channel there when your community gets popping. All the best, breh!
