Spell out your logic. What does "the USA struggled with Mexico last year" say about the ability of NFL players to immediately dominate? The fact that Mexico excels at the sport (they have won two silvers in the World Championships in addition to nearly beating the USA last year) may be a sign that traditional NFL size and skills aren't the key to victory.

In this thread people are showing Doucette's shiftiness as a reason why NFL players are going to struggle. I'm saying NFL players are better athletes and counter to your point of 5'6" to 6' guys being the desired size, the NFL has plenty of athletes in that size range.

As well, the flag guys aren't the typical NFL size. So to say because the US Flag team won close, that speaks to typical NFL size and skills not being the key to victory doesn't make sense. It'd make sense if the US team DID have typical NFL size and skills.

85% of the American male population is under 6' tall. Only about 10% of NFL players are under 6' tall. On top of that, people under 6' are more often than not better athletes than those over 6' because of the unnatural growth and joint difficulties that many tall people have.

That suggests that there is a MASSIVE talent pool of very athletic American men under 6' who are not playing NFL football. Especially considering that the athleticism necessary for the NFL and the athleticism necessary for flag football don't line up perfectly.

Do you think the Mexican players who did so well were bigger or smaller than them?

That's true. But if you stratify by position type, or if you use exclusion criteria that selects out front 7 and non eligible receivers, that number increases from 10%. Tyreek, Odell, Tank Dell, Jaylen Waddle, Derek Stingley, Xavier Worthy, etc are all guys who are under that 6' mark you talk about....and are highly likely to be more athletic than the guys on the flag team

Bruce Mapp, one of USA's top receivers (and also a DB) ran a 4.68 40 at about 6 feet, 207 lbs at his Pro Day. Pro Day times are notoriously faster than NFL Combine times.

The gulf in athleticism between USA flag players and the players the NFL could bring is tremendously large. I'm not even sure the team USA players would even get a chance to rip a flag because you can rip a flag only once the player becomes a runner. Tyreek would uncouple from a DB extremely easily and then once Murray puts that ball up no USA DB will be able to stop the completion.

As for the Mexicans: if they were smaller and were able to compete, that doesn't mean that if the NFL players fielded a taller team, that means they wouldn't be able to compete. It's like saying because AB is 5'10" and had a HOF type career, a 6'4" Randy Moss or 6'5" Calvin wouldn't be as good. Or because 5'8" Darrell Green was great, 6'3" Richard Sherman couldn't be great.

Flag football in the Olympics starts in 2028, not next week. We're not talking about fielding a team for next week.

"The remarks from Mayes and Hallenbeck, USA Football’s chief executive officer, come as big-name NFL quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes, Caleb Williams, Joe Burrow and Jalen Hurts have expressed interest – in various forms – of throwing for the American squad in LA. So has Tyreek Hill, the NFL’s reigning receiving yards leader."

Flag football doesn't allow running over people or stiff arms, there's no tackling ... it's not even close to the same sport.

Fact that they have to grab flags means size would be a detriment if you're not super fast.
The core of defensive football is breaking down and being stable to be ready to react to an offensive. That's base fundamentals since elementary school football whether it's flag football or not. They're not going to be confused because they can't lower their head and not use their shoulders.

Literally 7 on 7 is essentially the same thing. Have you ever seen 7 on 7? Have you seen the defenders break down and keep the offensive player in a spot for a beat then let them finish the play. You're literally making up a "problem". Have you seen players practice in shells? Or with no pads? It's ALL touch football without full contact. The literally just had the last two pro bowls with flags and wasn't no one running wild. If they can pull the flags off Tyreek and Jettas they won't have no issues.

On the flip side, the current flag football team has ZERO experience playing against NFL level athletes. That QB's release is so slow I'd be surprised if he got more than a handful of completions longer than 5 yards. Look at the highlights "they didn't want us to see" and he needs his entire body to throw a deep ball. A regular NFL safety is eating up anything past 15 yards let alone a pro bowl level one who'd be on the Olympic team.
