Darrelle Revis is about to be hit with some VERY serious criminal charges including robbery, terroristic threats, conspiracy and aggravated assault ... TMZ Sports has learned.

Pittsburgh officials say police viewed cell phone video which they believe connects the NFL star to the violent assault of two men on the streets of Pittsburgh on Feb. 12.

Officials say the incident went down around 2:43 AM when two men -- a 21-year-old and a 22-year-old -- got into it with Revis after one of the men recorded video of him on his cell phone.

Revis allegedly snatched the phone and threw it in the street -- a verbal argument ensued which concluded with both alleged victims getting knocked out.

Officers responded to the scene and viewed the cell phone video. Cops were able to positively identify Revis.

We're told officials are in the process of formally filing the criminal charges against Revis.

For his part, Revis denies any wrongdoing and claims he's the REAL victim.

From a local Pittsburgh news source:

NFL star Darrelle Revis under investigation for South Side altercation

New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis, a multi-time All-Pro and Pro Bowl selection, is being investigated by Pittsburgh police, who are considering filing felony charges stemming from an early-morning street altercation on the South Side last weekend.

The 31-year-old Aliquippa native has not been charged, and it's not clear if he is currently in Pennsylvania.

Sources close to the investigation told Pittsburgh's Action News 4 that two men were punched near the corner of South 23rd and East Carson streets. The incident was reported around 2:30 a.m. Monday.

A police officer who drove by the area saw Revis speaking to two people; when he came back around, two of them were knocked out and Revis was gone, sources said.

Police have retrieved video from a phone belonging to one of the alleged victims, despite a claim by the victims that Revis took the phone from its owner and tried to delete video before throwing the phone into Carson Street, sources said.

Sources provided this timeline of the alleged events:

- Revis was approached by two people on the street who complimented his clothes and asked if he was Revis.

- Revis answered yes. The men continued to follow him and started recording him on a cellphone.

- A shoving match ensued as Revis asked the men to leave him alone.

- Victims say Revis grabbed the phone from one man in an attempt to delete the video, then threw the phone into Carson Street.

- A friend of Revis' approached, and the two men were punched. Nobody saw who threw the blows.

- Both of the injured men were taken to the hospital. One suffered broken bones around his eye.

One of the most acclaimed football stars in WPIAL history, Revis was named the Class AA Player of the Year in Pennsylvania after leading Aliquippa High School to a state title in 2003. He went on to play for Pitt, where he earned All-America and All-Big East honors.

Revis was drafted 14th overall by the Jets in 2007. His NFL career has also included stints with Tampa Bay and New England, where he was a member of the Super Bowl XLIX championship team.
