It kinda makes sense considering if either Bryan or Orton won that match the angle would've ended TANIGHT, dawg.
Bryan winning: Orton really looks bad amidst his return to the sadistic viper only to lose his first title match as a full on sadist. Also, third time's the charm and yet another screwy title stripping would hurt Bryan and the angle itself.
Orton winning: what incentive would Orton as well as the Mcmahons have for giving Bryan yet another shot after he beat Bryan with no championship advantage, this would be his fourth straight title opportunity and no one wants to see the same main event four PPVs in a row I don't care who you are. It'd be Sheamus/ADR all over again. Also HHH would've came out of this angle the winner.
actually,...the storyline of db versus orton was over months ago on smackdown.
when, db annihilated orton, clean in a hardcore match.
I only had no issue with this situation because before the finish of this match.
everything was booked by the x's and o's for orton, to go over here.
then, to go over at hiac.
which would have cemented orton as the top heel.
of which the wwe needed, with no sign of a face turn in sight.
to, help get db over for the long term chase angle as a bf for the wm title win.
now, we are in a weird little arena where....
orton if he goes over at hiac..
will never look dominate, even if he squashed db in a viscious beating at hiac.
all because it will look like orton was not bad ass enough over a length of time.
that harkens back to his past character and brings him full circle as a fully top level and over me heel.
this was the time, for cripple ache to have orton mirror his wm2000 leadup building and bookings.
having this finish made no exact sense and big show's momentum and convincability with the punch was ruined during the sheamus/show angle.
after show, was actually entertaining again.
when allowed to work in a situation that makes some actual sense for his character, given the content at that time.
this time,..after they ruined that content.
they make another errant decision to hurt show, even more in this rick steiner fights, bray Wyatt's pappy style booking.
right now,...
this big show angle is in no way shape or form as memorable or as high in quality leading up to payoff as steiner over mike Syracuse.
