Wouldnt be a problem if the US was using nuclear power plants or even working to develop them. But this is just gonna raise the cost of electricity for the average consumer. The electric companies should charge these data centers a premium for using so much power but you know thats not gonna happen.

Nuclear power plants take forever to be planned and build and they need tons of water for cooling, which is increasingly scarce.

How is china handling the enviornmental downsides?
The thing is, the chinese are building renewables in record speed, because they provide cheap and clean energy to power AI. Meanwhile Trump is deliberately destroying renewables in the US :snoop:
I've read tons of articles all saying China is going to win the AI race, because the US isn't building cheap and clean energy sources to power those data centers.

With stagnant wages, skyrocketing food prices, exponential utilities increases, rent stabilization nonexistent across many parts of the country, home ownership in the mud, wealth disparity on par with the gilded age, declining birthrate, demarcating line between church and state fading, regular fantastical displays of the states repressive force, crippling inflation looming etc. This country is ripe for ubiquitous civil unrest, anarchy and VUCA.

1. The reporting on this is done purposefully.

- announcement that the project will use more power than the state can provide
- predictable public outcry
- mention that the public can be assured their power won't be touched, we're building nuclear plants to generate our own...and sell you the extra!
- a good 55% of the knee-jerk responses go oh..ok then and opposition ADHD kicks in, crisis averted, looking for another outrage to focus on

2. What's not mentioned is the number of plants needed to run the proposed project at that scale..and the amount of water needed to cool all of them

3. This is also a clever end-around to secure water rights right up from under the public's noses, without any pushback whatsoever
