Why are people still so confused over this

Owning a team is like being in a collectively bargained fraternity. If you do something in public or private that embarrasses that fraternity, you can be thrown out. Not only was his act an embarrassment, his racist comments were directed directly at his franchises paying customers. His loyal customers that rode through years of putrid teams and awful management. By all accounts, he would have been voted out anyway (although I still wanted to see the votes )


As for Dave, I don't remember too many skits where black people weren't the head, foot and butt of the joke.

That essentially is what he's getting at. No one feels sorry for Sterling. It's the principle of anyone losing what's theirs over comments made in a private forum.

Sterling is a special case, as he already won in life. He don't have long on this earth and he will die having done much more than most people. He can't lose now.

I know that, but the clause is there. So this notion that "his livelihood shouldn't be taken away" is laughable when he agreed to that when he joined the club of owners.

Dave Chappelle is DEFENDING Donald Sterling ... claiming the disgraced former L.A. Clippers owner got screwed when his team was ripped away from him.

Chappelle opened up about the topic in an interview with GQ -- saying, "Ultimately, I don’t think he should have lost his team."

"I don’t like the idea that someone could record a secret conversation and that a person could lose their assets from that, even though I think what he said was awful."

Of course, Sterling was banned from the NBA for life -- and Commissioner Adam Silver said he did everything in his power to force a sale of the team in the wake of Sterling's racist comments.

Sterling fought the sale ... but eventually, a judge allowed Donald's wife Shelly to unload the team to Steve Ballmer for $2 BILLION dollars.

Chappelle's opinion lines up with Bill Maher -- who also defended Sterling's right to free speech back in May .. and took serious heat over it.

The big question ... why would someone as influential as Chappelle wait so long to go public with such a strong point of view? Kinda too little, too late.

Tune in next summer when he chimes in on Ray Rice ...
