Why are people talking about wearing a mask on some 'if he did, he'd be good'?
It does not matter if you wear a mask or not. If you out there in places with people you will catch it. The mask mostly helps you not spread it to other people. It's not a shield against catching it.
Masks only work as a protection for you if everyone else around you is wearing one also.
That's not entirely true. First, you can wear an N95 mask, which is pretty effective against the virus and second, other masks can also lower the risk of infection and especially reduce the viral load you are exposed to, which can have an influence on how severe the illness affects you.
But of course that doesn't mean that you should hang around large groups of people all the time. The mask is mainly there to protect you and others when contact with other people can't be avoided. And looking at the pictures in this thread, it's clear Dave was just behaving irresponsible. Even if you live in a bubble and people take regular tests, you should still practice social distancing and wear a mask.
