Dave hasnt changed so much, it’s really the audience. Everyone is in their little therapy speak grandiose bubble, so now comedy can’t just be comedy, it’s analyzed in this weird gentrified way—-both by fans and detractors. Like @mastermind idk wtf he’s even talkin bout

Some people can’t separate their political beliefs from comedy. To a lot of people, Some things are sacred cows and should never be mocked. (Israel, trans people, Charlie Kirk etc).

Whereas Dave takes the approach that any and everything can made fun of. At its core, his comedy is irreverent which can be offensive to people who may be in reverence to whatever happens to be the butt of his jokes at a given time.

Back then his delivery was more overtly joking and quite frankly goofy—-tElLiNg jOkeS—- and he subtly put the medicine in the candy, ie ‘sprinkle some crack on em’. Which if you would like to couch into modern philosophical therapy-speak was him addressing systemic racism and police corruption.

It wasn’t until Dave incorporated mature themes in a more heavy handed way that he ascended to goat tier. Which is still his current style. Same guy, same wit, same comedic timing, just a more mature delivery. Only lower level listeners are sitting around saying ‘where da jokes’
