The comic began his set to wild applause from the crowd at the Comcast Theatre in Hartford, delivering an opening routine which candidly addressed changes in both pop culture and himself, since his 2005 split with Comedy Central and subsequent disappearance from the mainstream.However, several audience members became increasingly disruptive, which visibly bothered Chappelle, and the comedian put his act on hold in an effort to quiet the vocal audience members. This lead to more hecklers joining an increasingly loud crowd, which resulted in Chappelle abandoning his material and sitting quietly on a stool in the center of the stage, explaining that he had been contracted for a 25-minute performance and he would simply wait for the time to be up and then leave.True to his word, amidst more boos and heckles from an increasingly angry audience, Chappelle put down his microphone and left the stage, indicating he would “never come back here [to Hartford].”
Hartford Police dispatched extra patrols to the Comcast Theatre as a precaution.
