ICE uses interior arrests because that's their purview.

Customs and Border patrol uses border apprehensions because that's their purview.

What do you mean uses? Why would ice use interior arrests to determine how many people are crossing the border illegally? Why would it even matter to them?

the number of border patrol arrests at the border is used to GUESS at the number of illegals crossing over not the number of interior arrests

Because ICE doesn't operate on the border and The Border Patrol doesn't operate internally.

But illegal immigrants come both by border jumping and coming legally and overstaying visas.

As such in order to track illegal immigration each department uses metrics that are relevant to them.

Again, since 2/3rd of illegal immigrants are those who cross legally its important for both departments under DHS to track illegally immigration in ways relevant to their purview.

Ice arrests don’t happen in a vacuum during obama’s time he implemented policies to reduce the number of ice arrests

You can use different data sets to make a guesstimate but the number of interior arrests is not a measurement of the number illegal immigrants, unless you’re a Twitter scholar

What I said is that obama started off enforcing immigration laws heavily and then he backed down

You posted a graph of interior arrests to dispute that

I’m not following how that graph disputes my assertion

You're the one who seems confused

:patrice:

apparently I am a little bit slow, if I say that obama ramped up enforcement then backed off, please explain to my slow self how those graphs prove me wrong

How does David Frum have a platform in 2018? :mindblown:

He just published another terrible column today.

Why the Democrats Won the 2018 Midterms - The Atlantic

Second, the vote administered enough Democratic disappointment to check the party’s most self-destructive tendencies. If Beto O’Rourke had eked it out in Texas, Democrats might well have nominated him for president in 2020, almost guaranteeing a debacle. There is no progressive majority in America. There is no progressive plurality in America. And there certainly is no progressive Electoral College coalition in America.
The names Barack Obama and John F. Kennedy still thrill Democratic hearts. But Obama and Kennedy were realists, who regularly disappointed and vexed their most liberal supporters. Senator Barack Obama voted for ethanol subsidies and regularly went awol from political tussles over gun control. Obama was no Beto—which is why Obama actually won his U.S. Senate race in 2004. Beto enthusiasts are today recalling that Abraham Lincoln lost a Senate race in 1858 before winning the presidency in 1860. They are not recalling the innumerably more numerous politicians who failed to win a Senate race before not winning the presidency.

He's trying to directly compare winning in Illinois, against a candidate who shot himself in the foot no less, to winning in Texas? :stopitslime:

He's trying to build an entire political philosophy out of the idea that if Beto can barely miss on winning in a deeply red state, then he can't win the normal path-to-victory that Obama just demonstrated with plenty of room to spare?

:dahell:

It may not be right that the middle of the country exerts radically more political weight than the coasts, or that white votes typically count for more than nonwhite votes. Right or not, those things are true, at least for now, and as long as they remain true, political realists must reckon with them. If 2018 offered a promise of at least some restraint on the Trump presidency, it also yielded a reminder of the hardest facts of American life and politics. Be guided by that reminder—the struggle for liberal democracy is too real and too dangerous for hearts undirected by heads.
Or heads undirected by brains. You were a low-level lackey in the George W. Bush administration, dumbass. :mjlol:
