Right…. Everybody in here shytting on him cuz of what he said, is weird af considering this is a mostly male - based forum…. Sounds like a bunch of :wrist:in here….

Dude basically said he had the wrong idea about relationships and at the time, he had a very limited view of relationships, so it caused him to critique her harshly and maybe rush to judgement…. He thought at the time those were the things a woman needed to possess…

Nikkas in here sounding like scorned women, defending Halle Berry of all people.. calling him a PIG??? lmaooo 😂😂😂

Come on, get it together fellas
Never in my life have I heard a grown man call another grown man a “pig” outside of the context of police.

This shyt is the Twilight Zone :hubie:

David blamed himself for the failure of his marriage to Halle Berry. He attributed his views on marriage as a youth to seeing how his mom raised him as a stay-at-home mother, which unfairly altered his perception of Halle’s potential as a mother. He said he wished he had understood the benefits of therapy, as they might still be a couple, since she had done nothing wrong.

Yet these are the headlines many have been reading.

The era of cherry-picked headlines, combined with folks’ short attention spans, has turned me off from being the long-form writer I once aimed to be. Watching people’s worldviews being shaped by hack headlines rather than seeking the richness of nuanced discussion has really turned me off from spending the time to go deep on topics.
Agreed

Modern communication has actually gotten WORSE with the advancements of technology.

We are in a true idiocracy

A woman not performing wife or motherly duties simply because shes rich is a cop out. These are skills that men across the board, regardless of class, race, or religion desire.

Imagine if a man said, "I'm not putting up no damn Christmas Tree" :hhh:
"Protect you? What I look like putting myself in danger?" :hhh:
"I don't need to know where we are going or what our itinerary is." :hhh:
"Change the flat tire? I ain't doing that" :hhh:
"Play catch with my son? I AM A RICH AND HIGHLY ATTRACTIVE ACTOR":hhh:

"That's what I pay our personal assistant, Eric, for!" :mjlol:

Having fun with a person like that and enjoying the lifestyle is one thing - but being married and respecting the intangible value they bring to your life is another.

No one of substance wants to be married to a useless beautiful shell.

It's funny how out of context this quote was framed. He said this and then went on to say that he was wrong and that at the time, Halle was only his second relationship, and he didn't know any better. He also said if they had gone to counseling, things probably could have been fixed. But the narrative is being built on this one sentence in the entire quote.

Cooking and cleaning makes someone substantive now? lol So why didn't he cook or clean? Does that mean he's a shell too?

"cook and clean" is kind of bad phrasing for saying "nurturing spirit".

Its not that men want a cook and a maid, they want a woman to be their support structure but basically they want to be the main character of the family but many woman want to be the main character of the relationship.
And that’s fine!

Why marry a Hollywood star if that’s what you want?

Being nurturing to your spouse, taking care of home - you know, and the specifics that traditional gender roles engaged in.

These days, the duties are much more fluid and interchangeable but you have to remember, we are talking about the 1990's. You can't ascribe your modern beliefs to times of past in all situations.

And yes, pulling your own weight in a relationship rather than outsourcing it is definitely substantive.

Prove me wrong.

David even said he was wrong in the interview. I mean, you guys are only going on part of the quote. He said he was regretful about how he approached the whole marriage. I don't know what you mean by pulling weight, either. Halle Berry was in multiple blockbuster movies in the 1990s. I don't understand the expectation that she should be cooking dinner, vacuuming, and washing dishes when other Hollywood actors and actresses are not doing these things. It's just really weird standard for their particular lifestyle. Now, if he had another measure of nurturing, like not being affectionate or encouraging or considerate, then that's different. But this cooking and cleaning thing for their lifestyle is definitely a kink, and he should go to a specific service to find people who have that kink because famous women are unlikely to be doing that sort of thing.

I didn't say he picked the right woman lol.

She also was only a promising young actress with no notable awards other than beauty pageants in 1993.

There is a duty of a man (and woman) to pick the right partner for what they want. I am simply saying that in nearly all relationships, people want effort from their partners in whatever form that may take - but outsourcing those desires will not work.

I am speaking specifically on the dynamics of any relationship.

I'm going to be honest, you didn't prove me wrong whatsoever.

We don't know what goes on in these households of the rich and famous on a day to day basis so I can't speak on if they get a chef every day, when they have a project, when one is out of town, etc. I know they have the MEANS to do so, but that's about it.

The point is (don't focus on cooking/cleaning in a myopic sense) that generally, what we as individuals desire as characteristics or traits in our partners would not appreciate it being outsourced simply because we have the money to do so.
