At the time she wasn't a big star, she was just a very attractive fledgling actress and you never know who is gonna blow up. She was broke by his admission and he was an already rich, successful pro athlete and SHE was the one that proposed to him. His stock was higher at the time (and probably the bulk of their relationship).


I think he gave a fair assessment of the situation because he said he liked her and they were young and most young successful people aren't thinking about the ugly long term issues. Decades later, Halle is a legendary starlet but she still having relationship issues, the issues David identified still remain.

She is NOT some super talented actress and let's be honest, her oscar win was because of how she fukked that white man on camera.
