It's hilarious how Ortiz being a cheater gets swept under the rug, while genuine all time greats are being snubbed year after year. If this dude makes the Hall of Fame then the Hall of Fame loses what little credibility it has unless they get over their faux outrage over steroids and let McGwire, Sosa, Palmeiro, Bonds, Clemens, Piazza(how is this nikka still not in?), etc in.

I hate to say it, but my criteria is that I pretty much let whatever happened prior to the new regulations with steroids slide, thus why I'd begrudgingly say yes to Ortiz and no to someone like Manny or A-Rod
What kind of logic is this?:what:

I'm not gonna deny entry based off suspicion the way guys like Bonds have, even if I think he did PED's I WOULD deny based off a flunked drug test or drug ban

PEDs
Didn't play the field.

And for the sabermetric-minded: A 49.8 career WAR...compared to

Edgar Martinez - 68.3
Jim Edmonds - 60.3
Jeff Bagwell - 79.6 (who isn't in, but might be elected in 2 or 3 years)

BTW, Kenny Lofton has a 68.2 WAR...more than Craig Biggio's 65.1

Except that Lofton did that as arguably the best leadoff hitter of his era in 3,269 FEWER plate appearances than Biggio had.

But Lofton didn't have 3,000 hits....

:beli:

And to be clear, my argument isn't that Lofton belongs in the HOF.
But if Biggio does...so does Lofton.

depends how the writers look at the steroids thing....and also the 2004 WS title, which in retrospect was one of the bigger stories in sports history. Ortiz was nearly impossible to get out during that run. He was a huge reason the Sox ended the curse...writers love that type of stuff.

Him and Manny back to back were the most feared duo Ive seen in my lifetime
i remember this era, shyt was unreal :heh:

Ortiz & Manny?

Breh, the 1996 Mariners had Arod batting 2nd, Griffey batting 3rd, and Edgar Martinez batting 4th.
And just in case you're not impressed by the names alone...

That's 3 guys in a row with a 1.000+ OPS.
And who batted 5th? fukkin Jay Buhner with a .926 OPS.

not gonna lie, i just cant follow this at all :dead:

if you're dumb enough to still take PED's in the face of a stricter policy, I can't support your HOF case. At least you can put much of the blame on MLB for their weak policies before. Once they cleaned it up, if you're still doing given what the penalties are, fukk you. Clearly you don't give a fukk.

That sounds different from the post I quoted though. Are you saying if it happened before steroids were banned you'd vote them in or are you saying if it's only suspicion without a positive test you'd let them in as opposed to if they tested positive regardless of when the positive test happened?
