I use to watch Living Single every week and I saw 1 or 2 seasons of Friends when it aired. I never put any kind of connection that they were similar. Figured it was a common concept for a sitcom. I didn’t think anything about it until a few years ago I read about NBC rejecting Living Single, saw how popular it was, and then created friends. Don’t know if it was true or not. All I know my tv was on Fox on Thursday nights in the 90s

How I Met Your Mother is basically the same shyt as Friends, but less good. You could easily do a reboot of Friends with a more diverse cast though, people who live in big cities actually sometimes do have friends from different backgrounds.

What show did that before Living Single? I’m not asking to be a dikk, but I think an ensemble show focused on friends without children is unique.

Also the characters were similar too.

Three's Company, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, Taxi, WKRP In Cincinnati, Perfect Strangers, The Golden Girls (senior citizen Living Single and Friends), Designing Women, Bosom Buddies.

Also, I don't doubt that the creators of Friends saw Living Single, on that Fox network, and said let's do this with an all white cast on a bigger network.
