but he did!!Rome been a clown. We all know that
Stern put the makeup on and jumped in the dumpster with him by retaliating the way he did, imo. You gotta be above it. You’re not a player or coach or GM. You’re the goddamn commissioner...
You can’t say stuff like that or lash out. You HAVE to be bland af vanilla middle aged white man at that point. Stern got super emotional. Which only leads me to believe the speculation and rumors of it being rigged even more
I don't know. From a hungover, still drinking fan perspective, I think David Stern had a chance to laugh it up a bit and still downplay the idea as ridiculous. It could've easily been like:Right, but for Rome to ask a question like that with no real evidence is entirely unprofessional. Stern loses any way he answers. If he denies, he gives the matter credence. That's why Stern asked if Rome was still beating his wife. It's the same thing.
No way Jim.
No way. We love the product that our players and management put forward everyday. The NBA is alive! It's vibrant! It's a beautiful league. We have such great stars. Great families....Jim we're really a family driven league
. We love seeing the change, the impact, that our budding superstars have on our young fan base. It's a great time to be a basketball fan!

Nothing about his response was lashing out. His entire demeanor was him being above it. He answered a loaded question with a loaded question that was supposed to let Rome know how dumb his question was. Matter of fact, he answered with a simple "No" in the first place, but Rome decided that wasn't enough. Conveniently, Jim still has never told us if he stopped beating his wifeRome been a clown.
