There's the problem, he's not a 2nd option and never should be, the Knicks let him be something he's not. The Cavs use him as a catch and shoot 4th option, if he has it going they feed him the ball, if he doesn't have it going he doesn't have the ball so you don't need to worry about him overdribbling and shooting a contested fading 19 footer.
