LOL "STREETZ IS A MUTHA" IS A CLASSIC TOO THO

"RAW", "RETALIATION, REVENGE, GETBACK", "SPACE BOOGIE", "LIFE I LEAD" ALL GREAT DOGG POUND SOLOS, AS WELL

dogg pound, rage & them were the backbone of those early death row days.

we gonna act like kurupt didn't have the best verses on chronic & doggystyle? we gonna act like kurupt wasn't pound-for-pound one of the best emcees in the game? we gonna act like daz wasn't one of the hottest producers in the game?

sure being on death row helped, but since when did 8ball & mjg accomplish any of the distinctions listed? put 8ball & mjg on death row, and they still don't sell as much as dogg food.

Eightball & MJG are both respected lyricists. They defintely have longevity in their favor and are probably more highly regarded in their own region than Daz & Kurupt in theirs. Eightball & MJG were almost a mandatory feature for any Southern MC who made it big from Master P to T.I. Almost every MC from the South cites Coming Out Hard as an influence. At one point, Eightball was hailed as the Biggie of the South (before Ross was known in the mainstream). They weren't even mainstream like that yet they were appearing on albums from Mase and Mobb Deep.

Don't even make it about sales, because Eightball & MJG have gold and platinum albums (group and solo). Daz & Kurupt only have one double platinum album between them and that's Dogg Food.

Scarface does rank ahead of Snoop and rightfully so, but many still hold Doggystyle in higher regard than Face's catalog. My point is people don't let the one album cloud their judgement overall.

The Fugees are more celebrated in Hip Hop than R&B (even though they aren't necessarily ranked among the greatest groups of all time). The Score is an album that Hip Hop magazines, journalists, and critics hail as classic. The point is they had one classic album (and it's a Hip Hop album because it's on the list of highest selling Hip Hop albums), but nobody's placing them on GOAT lists and every group mentioned in this thread would probably be ranked higher. Even though Clef's first solo is critically acclaimed and Lauryn's solo debut is a landmark classic, nobody's putting them over a lot of groups in Hip Hop.

 @ the bolded. no theyre not. im not saying that theyre not legends in hip-hop too, but theyre clearly more popular in the r&b realm. all you can list otherwise is a bunch of phoney industry props.

scarface's catalog is considerably stronger than 8ball & mjg's. he has 2 official classics in MSIB & the diary and other highly-regarded works, and that's just his solo work.

that's why I said, a better comparison to 8ball & mjg is someone like an mc eiht or dj quik. and somebody before me said, too short. that's another good one.

I've seen R&B artists praise The Score and even then it was in regard to what their favorite Hip Hop album was. The Fugees are rarely mentioned in the realm of R&B. People are more likely to categorize them as a Hip Hop group than some R&B group.

I wasn't comparing Face to Ball & G. I never said tha his works weren't highly regarded. Neither of the albums you listed is as highly regarded as Doggystyle though.

I kinda get the feeling that you think im downplaying 8ball & mjg. well im not. im just sayin.

- neither 8ball & mjg were as respected as kurupt. nor did they do beats(daz)
- longevity of what? putting out middle-of-the-pack music? by your logic, I guess fat joe & busta rhymes are in your top 10?
- all regions aren't created equal. if dogg pound were from the south, they'd probably be seen as the goat group.
- I didn't make it about sales. I was just responding to whoever I quoted(might've been you).
- they have a double-plat album in dogg food. yes. something that 8ball & mjg would have never achieved, regardless of what label they were signed to.

Yes 8 Balls lost was solid. But that shyt was basically a compilation album. It was a triple CD of a lot of good songs but also a lot of filler.

Kurupt's "streetz iz a mutha" is a certified classic and "Space Boogie" is a gem in its on right. The "kuruption" album was simply ok. Nothin great.

Daz has 1 classic album with retaliation revenge and getback and Raw was an underground hood classic because daz released that independently

Its hard to make a Double album (fukk that 3rd CD,that shyt was like an advertisement for lame artists) as solid as Lost was though. I dont see all the fillers u talking about. His story telling on that album is amazing. Rarely do artists have me picturing their lyrics word for word but 8 ball had me visualizing every damn line he was saying. I still dont see any Kurupt or Daz album touching it (especially Daz,that nikka is trash solo)

if you cant see that the fugees get more r&b-type props, then I don't know what to tell you.

oh and you bragging about the fugees' sales, but their sales were a result of their r&b records.

I never claimed that face has an album on the same level as doggystyle. I said that he has legit classics(along with other things), which allows him to trump doggystyle.

WHAT KINDA DUMBASS ARGUMENT IS THIS, WHAT KINDA PROPS THE FUGEES GET, LMFAO

Like Daz & Kurupt, they had the one album that was huge with fans, critically acclaimed, and was huge. The point is nobody's letting The Score cloud their judgement and elevating The Fugees to some GOAT group status like people are doing with Dogg Pound in this thread b/c of Dogg Food.

Whether or not The Fugees were Hip Hop or not is a whole different thread. It's pretty obvious that they are a Hip Hop group though.

I never brought up sales until you brought it up. I never mentioned sales in regard to the Fugees.

In regard to Face, there lies my point: Eightball & MJG also have classics (along with other things), which allows them to trump Dogg Food. People have put up that one album against a catalog of group albums by Eightball & MJG. Not to mention that Eightball & MJG still had relevance up until at least 2011 and they dropped their debut in 1992.

i didn't say the album was garbage, or that daz was a wack producer, or that kurupt coudn't spit..im just saying that album don't compare to a lot of other WC classics, nor does it compare to a few other albums that dropped in 95..dogg food isn't on the level of MATW or OB4CL,period..95 marked the beginning of the end of the west coast sound.

where is ras kass from? del? crooked i? locksmith?

and why u think kurupt rep the west??

PONDER

...and none of them other artist received as much recognition as kurupt either..

and of course kurupt repped the region that put him on..but remember on his 1st album (kuruption),he repped for both the east & west coast..so ponder that :ohhh:

1ST, WHAT DOES SUCCESS HAVE 2 DO WIT LYRICISM?

2ND, KURUPT ALWAYS CONSIDERED HIMSELF A WEST COAST ARTIST AND REPPED SOUTH CENTRAL 1ST N FOREMOST..HE DID HAVE THAT 1 BICOASTAL IDEA FOR THE "KURUPTION" ALBUM, BUT THAT WAS A MARKETING PLOY.. NO MATTER HOW U SLICE IT, KURUPT IS THE EPITOME OF A WEST COAST ARTIST.
