DC AirBnB Squatter Claims Tenant Rights & Locks Out Homeowner

I think if your Airbnb guest does a long term stay for more than 30 days and get mail sent to the address you can’t call the police because they can claim they are a tenant therefore you have to settle it in civil court which could take months.

So in the mean time technically they can stay there until courts say get out. But if you are a bum who cares you’ll just go to another place and keep doing it.

Of course you can take it in your own hands and bust knee caps but you can also mess around and catch a case yourself.

How does that not protect the millions of other actual registered tenants that skip out on rent or go broke and then get tossed out

That station should nominate the reporter for the next Pulitzer journalism award. When/if this story breaks nationally, it might provide the impetus for counties and states to update and revise these bullshyt protections built into the laws .

When I read about a story, I try to watch and post the local news coverage of the event, and I picked up on that. The difference in production values between smaller cities and big metro areas.

If an event happens in NJ or in NY, outside of NYC, the major networks coverage will be more extensive and the presentation more polished, as you noted.
Jersey, Upstate NY, and Long Island news looks like a college station by comparison.
