DC seemed to be content with its tiring Superman and Batman movies and animated series. The other characters in DC Universe will do so well in movies and animation if their creators decide to expose them in mainstream.

A few thoughts..... Some random.
Warner/DC is ramming Batman down our throats but I doubt that DC will stop saying "no" to money. I thought DC was in works to have a Wonder Woman movie in production?
The reality, at least IMHO, is that the Marvel Comic Universe is superior to DC because each character universe flows seamlessly into the next. With DC, I don't feel like, outside of the Super Friends(and Aquaman is pushing it) the universe of each individual character clashes. Marvel has has had superior writing and character creation(mostly from the mind of Stan Lee). That is what separates the two for me.
A better example of why most comic book movies with black actors aren't successful is Spawn. First, like a poster already mentioned, they chose a black actor(regardless if the character from the comic was black). Next, they chose a basically unknown actor in comparison to Wesley Snipes who was established. Lastly, it was a clash of taste to casual consumers that weren't familiar with the story/character..... especially to black people i.e. the soundtrack was completely dark heavy metal which fit with the theme of the movie but was a fail to black music consumers... not sure if it was popular among general consumers(white people). All these factors doomed the movie... which in my opinion was pretty good. I'm still waiting on a sequel with Michael Jai White.
