The public schools in Washington, D.C., spent $29,349 per pupil in the 2010-2011 school year, according to the latest data from National Center for Education Statistics, but in 2013 fully 83 percent of the eighth graders in these schools were not "proficient" in reading and 81 percent were not "proficient" in math.

These are the government schools in our nation's capital city — where for decades politicians of both parties have obstreperously pushed for more federal involvement in education and more federal spending on education.

Government has manifestly failed the families who must send their children to these schools, and the children who must attend them.

Under the auspices of the National Center for Education Statistics, the federal government periodically tests elementary and high school students in various subjects, including reading and math. These National Assessment of Educational Progress tests are scored on a scale of 500, and student achievement levels are rated as "basic," "proficient" and "advanced."

I just cant imagine being below my own grade level in reading. If people dont read, how does their thinking work?

This is a problem I just cant empathise with at all.

What parts of the city and what schools is that "$29,349" being mostly distributed to though. :mjpls:

If there's a fair and even distribution of funds throughout the city, and schools like Ballou, Woodson, Spingarn etc. are still in the shape that they're in...

...somebody in the DC board of education is caking. :win:

Maybe da gawd bigDeeOT was right :lupe:

My thesis is that when you give money to a black community it will never go to the right individuals because blacks are inherently corrupt and predisposed to being uncivilized.

:damn:

No amount of spending or system can make up or shytty parents.

My parents stressed education and taught us to read at a very young age. My sister is doing the same with my nephew. He's in the first grade reading at a 3rd grade level because my sister puts alot of effort into his school work.

Not going around evenly........... But still not being spent right...

for 13K my sons get a great educations and teachers who seem like they cum in their panties every time a kid learns something new.

all the kids in the school are above average and the equivalent school in the DC area is 17K (6K less per student in public school)

also, ^it's not culture..... it's individual families... two kids from the same culture can be different. my boy graduated hs not knowing what a Thesaurus was.... we are from the same cloth.

culture comes from a lot of sources including family but the point is spending more money isnt going to fix the problem, because money isnt the real problem

It's the parents tbh.

I ain't trying to shyt on my big sister like that but she doesn't stay on top of her kids in school and she's damn near 30 and needs to get her shyt together. Her oldest daughter got a D and an F on her report card(one in reading) and my sister just honestly doesn't give a fukk or even care about figuring out what is going on wrong. She won't help her study or anything and is more concerned with her church and buying all those bullshyt azz designer clothes/apple products and stupid material shyt. :snoop:

She doesn't turn in homework and a boy in school tried getting her in trouble and called her a "fukking snitch" for telling the teacher that he called her a slut. She thinks that she doesn't have to worry about it because its just some "kids being kids" type shyt since it's the fourth grade and you know DAMN well these teachers don't give a single FUKK about these kids or step up for the kids. I keep trying to tell her that she needs to step up for her daugther because these bytch azz teachers won't against these other students and it won't go through her thick skull. I told her to make sure she keeps her kids in a good school district when they get older so they can at least have a somewhat decent academic career despite my triffling ass sister not stepping up to the plate.
