HTPC is hooked up in the living room where my PS4 is, so I had no use for it.

Still sucks for anyone that did though.

I got 3 tvs and all of them have that built into their smart features. People still need game consoles to stream these days. Seems standard issue on modern TVs.

What's an alternative device to stream: Computer -> device -> TV?

I'm looking to invest in one now in case my PS3 craps out on me or something.
Both current systems do it. Most newer TV's have the ability, and then there's the Roku/AppleTV (though you have to have an AppleTV 1 or 2, and it has to be jailbroken). I've read that a number of Blu-Ray players will do it as well. Plenty of options.

I don't expect this to be permanent tbh...They will probably allow stuff like this in future firmware updates.

Strange decisions though.

Good point. PS3 didn't support DLNA at launch and wasn't in till 1.8 firmware update.

This is DEFINITELY an L. I use PS3 media server to stream music almost every day...and every weekend I usually stream a movie or two...even with that BS ass Cenavia (just change the date when it blacks out the audio)...da fuc sony :beli::beli:

I do remember DLNA not being in the ps3 at launch. Its hard to imagine a top Sony device without the "Sony DNA" (Sony marketing on some devices not too long ago)
I will admit all my music and videos are pirated tho :yeshrug:

No lie, if Xbox has this feature at launch, this could make me switch over. Me and the fam always watch a movie in my man cave..and im not movin my computer by the tv. This shyt is irritatin me brehs :snoop:

No DLNA support on Xbox1 either:
Earlier this year, Microsoft noted that the Xbox One will not work as a Windows Media Center Extender, which would have allowed users to connect multiple devices running Windows. DLNA support, while possible on the Xbox 360, is still unconfirmed for the Xbox One.

This! DLNA is software, so that can be added in a future PS4 System update.

LOTS OF HURT FEELINGS HERE, LET ME CORRECT THE MISCONCEPTIONS...
that retarded. DLNA is pretty essential. But then again, streaming HD content from your phone or PC sucks across the board.
I use Play-To which is a DLNA app for Windows phone and it streams flawlessly 1080p movies from my phone to my xbox 360. Just has to be signed into the same wifi network
I read it works flawless on apple devices as well. Now you know :handshake:
Only reason I see why they would do that is to choke pirates a bit.
That is a big part of the reason, but not enough for them to take away the feature. The reason its taken away?
You know how Xbox One is this all in one box. Sony wants to be that as well, but they think all the services you'd rather buy from them. Then you can have an all in one box. No need to stream your own stuff when they can charge you to stream there stuff. doesn't sound like a great idea, but that is there idea :patrice:
Cinavia protection has crippled software like PS3 Media Server...outside of maybe streaming some music, this really isn't that big of a loss.
This is a HUGE deal, DLNA made it so you could get away with a lot of the roadblocks (protection) they put on online content to prevent you from watching. Now you bamaz need Slyvester Stallone to help with an escape plan if you wanna watch a downloaded movie :russ:
Unlike Xbots we are honest when it comes to shyt like this. In their case they would be 100% behind the idea. This is bullshyt though.
Look bruh, shut up. You guys are the least honest with yourselves group there is. I already told you dumbasses about this, about CD's not playing, about PSN being a mystery. There is a ton of PS4 features you are taking an L on and not until today have I seen you guys admit to any of it.

PSN been LOST since last october. Admit your online is some shyt or STFU like you been doing for a full year now
It's purely for Piracy reasons. I'd wager that over 95% of the ppl upset at no Video streaming, downloaded their videos illegally. Just be thankful we have plenty of devices that can already do this.
nikka, shut your dumbasss up. DLNA is available on every device there is except PS4. So how come piracy isn't an issue for every other device outside of the PS4? You make no sense, and you wanna give sony a pass so they can try to rape you themselves. If that helps you sleep at night, more power to you!!!

Or you can just cop an Xbox One and not need "plenty of options" cuz you got it all in one box :blessed:

Yeah cuz sony is big on adding features as opposed to taking features away right :shaq:
This isn't a feature that needs to be added at a later time. Its there or its not
Just like support for CD's. It didn't need to be added at a later time. It was taken away for a reason.
Word of advice, don't ask Jack Tretton about it :stop:

They unofficially announced it because they was talking about DLNA features in Xbox One during one of there shows/whatever. The windows media extender is being phased out completely so it wont' be XB1 compatible. But M$ has there own solution for an improved performance. Its the do everything ONE box you will ever need. Thats the idea at least...

Unlike the other players in the game, Sony's a content provider as far as music, TV and movies. Sucks, but they're not gonna sell us media and then also provide us a mechanism to get around them selling us that media. Still, I'd stay tuned for a workaround of some sort, you never really know what can happen.

:lolbron:

Yup, when I got hit with that loss of sound when I was streaming a BRRip I knew what needed to be done... cop a Roku

I've been saying it for a while now, but if you're into streaming downloadable content from your PC, consoles aren't really ideal... especially for movie rips.
